What do you think?

Have a chance to get a TA for $200. It has a 383, built tranny, aluminum driveshaft and a Dana 60 w/disc brakes. It also has 295/50 tires on the wide TA rims (it's an 11sec car).

Here's the catch...

I have to take the 383 and tranny out to put in the guy's 79 vette and I get the TA and tired Vette motor for $200. The Vette motor is going in my dad's 76 Vette (rebuilt) and he is going to keep his numbers matching motor to go with the car when/if he ever sells it.

Don't worry, I'm not going to dip out on the V6 world, I've already done the V8 thing and am having fun with the V6's now .

BUT, I get the DS, rear end and rims/tires! I will put my rear in the TA so it will be going up for sale soon (body is a little rough, interior is shot), or is better to part out?

Here is my question-Is it worth it?

I don't think so, for the amount of work that you're actually going to be doing. For $200 + a bunch of labor you're getting a rear end and driveshaft with a junk car.

You can go out and get the same stuff from a yard for that price. IMO, I would pass on it.

All that matter's is if it's worth it to you, and you alone. If your gut is telling you to go for it, then by all means, go for it bro....

Forgot to mention, they are both carbed motors and the tranny will be comming out as a package. These are the kind of swaps I was doing when I was younger and into hot rods.

One weekend it could be done.

I'm not concerned about the labor as much as I am about cash (have four kids). What is the rear, DS, rims and tires worth? He said I could have the car less the motor for $200, but my dad will go halves with me so he can have the Vette motor. and the guy is 62 yrs old and would have to wait for him to get it done.

The front plastic is "curb rashed" to death (some cracks), fenders are a little beat - little rust. Doors work and the hood is salvageable. Headlights don't go down, but the boxes are in good shape. I have only seen it a couple of times, but I'm going to take a better look. The suspension is also set up, again the car ran low 11's.

Yeah, if you don't care that much about the labor, then $200 is a great deal.

Yeah, about to do the research on what Dave said. If the rear is worth that much, might have to sell it to pay for more "go fast" parts on the V6 , and use a 12 bolt Eaton,

Wow! Dave you are right, the cheapest Dana 60 I could find (3rd gen specific) was $1500 (used). I guess sometimes we got someone upstairs looking out for us .

Re: What do you think?

It' a WS6 (I think) it makes referance to "performance suspension" on the dash. The front struts are almost brand new but don't know if they will be too stiff for a V6 car. The tranny comming with it is a TH350 (too short to drive the car home with the stock size driveshaft. Has the manual steering conversion.

I don't get the 295/50 tires, probably will get the 265/60 (still wider than mine) and it has the honeycomb rims.

Hopefully I will get over there in the next few days and get a real good look and pics. The car is actually salvageable.
