How hard to stop with no booster?

I'm trying to find a vacuum leak and I've done replaced the brake booster, although it was used. When in park, I can press the brake pedal and the rpms go way up and then WAY down after I release the pedal. It might be a constant source of a vacuum leak. I can spray around the valve on it with no change in idle but there is no way to check the diaghram on the inside. How hard is to stop without a brake booster? How much braking distance do I need? On a 3.1 V6.

If your a big guy/gal no problem if your not so muscular id keep it hooked up till you can get a new booster or such.

your booster should hold enough vac that once you shut the car off you should get 2 or 3 pumps of the pedal. My car will hold enough vac that after 30mins or so i can get in the car and push the pedal to the max 2 times and the 3 time i get bout 1/2 down.

Re: How hard to stop with no booster?
If the RPM changes when you press the brake pedal, the booster is bad...end of story.

Under normal conditions with a good booster, the vac leak to atmosphere is so slight that the IAC should be able to compensate for it, and even if the IAC is bad it should only go up about 100rpm or so...nothing crazy.

Stopping our cars without power brakes is like trying to steer them without p/s. Hope you're buff...lol

Well...I'm 5'9 and 200 lbs. I have to lift 50 lb. bags all day. Usually, at the end of the day, I've done lifted about 8,000 lbs. Guess thats why I'm tired to do anything to the car till the weekend comes around. LOL.

I don't think you'd be able to, i'm 5'6" 145lbs and I lift 80-120lbs bags of concrete and bundles of shingles all day and there is no way i'd be able to do it. Just get another brake booster.

Assuming that it's similar to when you try and stop after the car stalls, it can be pretty hard to do.

It's hard when the engine stalls. Can't imagine a vacuum leak..

Re: How hard to stop with no booster?
Its not bad actually to stop if you're goin pretty slow, but you really do have to step on it. I can do it if I'm just rolling down my driveway. I don't remember why I've ever done that but its very possible.

I can't IMAGINE what it would be like though if you're ever doing 45. I hope you can see that red light coming 300ft away.

They could use that as another World's Strongest Man competition thing - who can stop the car without a brake booster in the shortest distance.
