Fan question

I think that the fan switch is busted. If it is on the back of the passenger head then the wire came out of it. I don't know if I can use it now, can I? My question was is there a way to cut the fan on and for it to stay on when the car turns on. I know that I can run a switch. I want the fan to come on when the car is on and stay on and cut off when It is off. Is there a way to do this. I basically have the rest of today and part of tommorrow to fix it. My fan started going out on the way home. I got home by driving up hills and cutting the motor and coasting downhill and see how far I would get. Fun day.

Re: Fan question

All you need to do is find the fan relay. There will be a green wire with a white stripe coming out of it. Ground this wire, and the fan will come on when the car comes on.

Test it first with a jumper wire.

Re: Fan question

Where exactly is the sending unit. Ground it by just attching it to the body closeby?

Re: Fan question

The fan switch merely grounds that wire.....

Just jumper it anywhere on the body.

Re: Fan question

The relay that you are talking about is the same one that is one the passenger head?

Re: Fan question

Found the wire. It looked black from being covered in soot. Now I wonder how cool will the motor run and will this wear out the fan?

I've done this to other GM cars in the past and the fan usually out-lasted the engine.

Re: Fan question

Thanks. I don't have any worries then besides warm-up taking forever now.
