Mmmm...rod knock.
Well, got the exhaust on my car finally....and now that I can actually hear the engine, I've found that it has a pretty bad knock. Bleh. That's a bit of a set back.
Here's a vid of what you don't want your engine to sound like...you don't even need to listen closely. You'd have to try to not hear it inorder to not hear it.

It's got almost 148k. I just bought the car a few weeks ago, and I've probably put 2/10 of a mile on it by just pushing it around so far.

Yea, I'm sorta anxious to see what it looks like inside too...hopefully there's nothing to see....I'm preparing to take off the oil pan....took off the crossover pipe and drained the oil earlier today...didn't find any evidence in the oil...we'll see how this goes.

Re: Mmmm...rod knock.
Well, finally got her apart earlier today.
Of course, it was the rod all the way in the front that gets starved the most of oil....there was a LOT of play in it, but I lucked out as the crankshaft seems to be fine...the bearings on the other hand, not so fine...not much left to the bearings...most of what remains of them is in the sludge in the bottom of the oil pan.
Make a run to the parts store tomorrow and have her all put back together by Saturday night. That should be the end of my engine trouble for a little while, at least.

Sounds like my car after the sound of a cannon going off
. I had detonation that would throw a rod in most motors (good thing they are forged from the factory :P)

Re: Mmmm...rod knock.
Well, just came back inside after finding out that the crank is bad, afterall. Now, I don't know what I'm going to do. Gotta think this through. I'm not even sure yet if the trani is any good...might just take advantage of this time to swap out the 4 speed auto for a 5 speed stick.
But for now, I'm broke and car-less. Definitely not going to get rid of her. Not sure if I want to just buy another engine and drop it in or if I want to rebuild this one.
Anyway, I'm open to suggestions.
Edit: Would anyone happen to have a 3.1L crank lying around that they'd be willing to sell?

I MIGHT have a 3.1 crank laying around, I'll see if it's here or if I scrapped it with the old block (scrapped block due to missing maincaps)
If it's any help to you I've got a stock 3.1 cam for sure even though stock sucks I figured I'd throw that out there too!

Just bought a crank for it a couple days ago off of ebay...it's in the mail....and I don't need a cam for it. Thanks anyway though, it's appreciated.

Re: Mmmm...rod knock.
$180 shipped.
It's a crank kit...refurbished straight from the factory with new rod and main bearings.
Edit: napa wanted $237+tax and then a $90 core charge on top of it. -_-

Yea, not exactly a crank that's in high demand...so, it's gonna cost a bit more. Advanced was about the same price, but with a much smaller core charge...$234.44 and then a $26.40 core...I think they just made that number up...234.44...lol
