Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
I am going to be making a turbo kit for a 2.8 camaro. While I'm making one, I figured maybe I can help out my wallet and make some extras while I'm at it. I'm still on the drawing board phase so this is purely to see if there is any interested buyers if I were to make extras. It would be for 82-92 60 degree V6's, forward style headers. I am going to be making a twin-turbo charged build, but would build a single-turbo kit as well. It would only be the exhaust portion of the turbo kit (turbo-headers, exh. piping, and down pipe)
Cost wouldn't be that much, it would cover all the supplies I need and I would take a cut for the time I put into these.
But again, my plans are still on the drawing boards and it will be a month or two before the kit would be finished.
So, if I made some extra "kits" (turbo headers and all the exhaust you would need for the turbo) would anyone be interested in buying some?
More details on my planned setup, feel free to ask

Probably what everyone is going to want to know is; is there anything that people will have to get rid of? (AC?) This is just piping correct?

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
If i were gonna do it i would want all the stuff needed. IE Turbos, piping, Prom, etc. so i could just bolt it on and go, and a price that is less than what it would cost to get an equal performance V8.
EDIT: oops reread you first post but i still would like to know the possibility of a complete bolt on kit.

You could just buy the rest of the stuff off ebay. Just buy the same turbo, etc of what he is using and maybe get a copy of the tune.

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
From what i have seen, there is no where to buy a complete kit for 60degree fbodies. This would just cover all the exhaust for the turbo. I am probably going to make a variation of kits including a dual-forward sweeping header style and then another style that goes around back of the engine and under the K member. Remember, this is all in the planning stages, and I just sold a car and will be getting cash soon to make these plans a reality.
My plan includes a few modifications, specifically:
Forward sweeping header style:
Air pump must be removed, and AC compressor must be removed. Also, the power steering will be relocated. I have a plan for the power steering and am working all the kinks out of it on the drawing board and the mock-engine.
and the 2nd style should allow all accessories to be kept. I am most likely not going to use this one on my car but wouldn't have a problem making one for people if interested
If anyone is interested when it comes time to making these, I can show you where/what I am buying to go along with this 'kit'.
My budget for my personal project including this exhaust is about a grand

i would be interested with the one that you get to keep the ac and p/s,i removed the air on my prelude and im paying for it now that its raining alot it get humid as hell and the glass gets foggy.it would be nice to have the twin setup allowing us to keep the ac and p/s.....
Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
Yep, I will post my plans later as it gets closer to 'production' but as of now, the kit that keeps the AC etc will be a single turbo setup
First Firebird:
Does that kit require relocation of the Power steering pump? Or does it sneak in behind it?
----------
I will post up my plans once I confirm they will work. So far from my measurements and tests I see no reason why they will not.

sounds like a plan once i get these tickets i got and this new job im getting settled down i will shoot by once i get the money
Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
. You can see how it was built here...https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/4...rbo-pipes.html
The new 3.4/3500 motor I'm building is going to have FF headers, and a 3x00 P/S pump modified for a remote mounted reservior.

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
I want to avoid going under the Kmember with FF headers to twins. Exh. pipe distance will be short, then dual downpipes to true dual exhaust (duals might not happen, we'll see) It will require a relocated PS pump that I am working the kinks out of currently

FF, just get a Sunbird power steering pump and bypass all of the modification you'll need to do. Why do you want to make things harder on yourself?

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
I would difinetely be interested in a turbo system for the right price as long as I don't have to remove anything, what do you think the Horsepower production would be? But yeah I would get in line for it.

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
Cost: Depends if you want my setup, or I have no problem making another single-turbo setup with spare parts I have. Looking as if 300 for my setup, and about half that for a single setup.
HP: Not sure, that depends mostly on what turbo you would use with it

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
Yes, this is not a complete kit. It will not look like firstfirebirds kit.
It will be about 300 bucks and just include custom turbo headers, and all the hot pipes.
Maybe my title is misleading, think of this as a Turbo Hot Pipes/Exhaust Kit, just a portion of a complete turbo kit.

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
$300 is cheap. Better look into the cost of pipe, flange material, and machining. Especially if you don't have the means to produce these parts.

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
I have parted out 10+ cars in the last couple years so lets just say I have alot of extra exhaust tubing laying around.
I will get an accurate price later on, but I think I can make a few budget "kits" for very cheap, probably less than 300, but once again, this was just to see if there is any interest, and it appears there is so I am planning to make a few copies of the kit I am using and some other variations that will be available for sale in a month or two

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
I gaet 10' 2.5" pipe with all the bends I want (streched not "crinkled") for $20. It still cost me almost as much as you are charging for a kit, just for materials. Don't sell yourself short, or you will be getting nothing for your time/labor.
Again, I'm curious to see how this pans out.

Re: Turbo Kit: Gauging Interest
Hit a little set-back on the project. I discovered that the 85 camaro i planned to use as the project car has frame damage. I am looking for another original 2.8/3.1 car at the moment.
Project is still moving forward tho. I began work on building up the 2.8 Engine this is going on and am expecting to have at least the turbo exhaust done within 1-1.5 months
I'll draw a rough sketch on paint sometime and post it up
And as for the cost, I pretty have material for 2 single-tubo kits minus headers. Half of which is 'non-crinkled' exhaust piping. I was also thinking I could make a "budget kit" using stock manifolds for about $100 if anyone is poor like me

I'm still out nearly a thousand dollars to the last person advertising "kits" on this board- do yourself a favor and do a search under the user name of "Doward" and "turbo kit group purchase"

Yep, not a scammer here, just one of you that needs help funding a car build. My name is badinfluenceRS on MANY other camaro/firebird forums out there.
Good news, found a car to put my 2.8 into, project is still moving forward
