High Idle

When I go out and fire up my car in the morning the idle it idles very high sometimes up around 2500. After driving it for a few minutes it comes down but normally between 2000 and 1500. Now I was playing with my TPS b/c it hasn't been working and before then it was always low almost to the point where it would cut off. When it wasn't working it would also smell rich at times. Especially since it has gotten cold. Not sure what else I should do. Just looking for a little insite.

Thnaks in advance!

Re: High Idle

Lots of things cause a high idle in these cars.
First, search and search again on here because a new high idle topic comes up about once every 2 weeks or so....

It could be alot of things.

MAF
IAC
TPS
EGR
simply a stuck throttle body plate
leaking injector
O2 sensor.

All those things can go bad/get dirty and contribute to a high/rough idle.

Re: High Idle

He said the tps is bad, more likely than not that's the prob. When my tps was failing I had the same symptoms.

Re: High Idle

Yea I'm gonna replace that first. I was idling funny today after it got warm and it has never done that before and it didn't start till I tweeted the tps. I'm really looking to get another ride so I can pull my baby in the garage and go through it.

Re: High Idle

I think I'm gonna put off the work till my vacation comes up. I have a week off from xmas till new years. Along with that just brought an air compressor tonight with the air tools ( nice combo pack from walmart) LOL. Got alot of work planned during that week so may as well do it all at 1 time. I guess you can call it the winter check up.

Mine is doing almost the same thing. At night it idles high around 1500-1700 when in park but then when i put it in gear it gets down to the 400-600 range and actually stalls out every once in a while.
From reading here it sounds like it could also be the TPS or maybe a vac line but i didn't see any problems with my vac lines. any other suggestions?

I cleaned my TB and replaced the TPS. Not sure if that helped b/c I also changed my clutch and flywheel. Not sure if it mattered but I idle now around 1300-1500 when cold and 800-1000 when warm.
