Rear Cam Seal
Just wanted to share something that seems to blow my mind, but I was changing out my flywheel today and noticed some oil leaking from my rear cam seal so I called to check on the price of 1. Me thinking since its just a small paper thin seal it would only run about $5-$10 buck but the darn thing is $20 bucks. Thats alot for that little seal and I got pissed and stopped working on my car once I heard that. So needless to say I had to get it or have another problem to deal with later.
Just wanted to vent that a little and I will be back to work on the car tomorrow.

Re: Rear Cam Seal
I highly suggest you don't try this.
That gasket is not simply a cork gasket, it also has metal rings around the bolt holes, to make sure that you don't crush the gasket, as this also helps with aligning the cam in the cam bore.
The oil pressure is also pretty significant at that journal and will push past silicone in no time.
I hate that gasket though, it always seems to end up leaking, glad that the genIII 660 went to a welch plug to eliminate that gasket.
Also $20 is pretty cheap, why get so pissed over it?

Re: Rear Cam Seal
Needless to say I called Advanced Auto Parts( or Parts America for some folks further south) and the dumb blond guy there said they had it in stock over the phone and gave me that price. When I went to the store to pick it up all of a sudden they don't have it and I never called there. I really hate going to a parts store knowing more than the guy thats supposed to be there to help me. So thanks for the heads up going to NAPA first thing in the morning.

Re: Rear Cam Seal
Here is the reason for me spotting the rear cam seal leaking. When I initally put the engine in my dad made the mistake of putting the flywheel from my 2.8 on the 3.4. Very bad mistake b/c of the wighted flywheel. He was thinking since the block was the same it wouldn't matter. If you look at the 2.8 flywheel on the left its counter weighted and the 3.4 isn't. I know alot of you already know this but I'm putting it up here so my dad can see the picture. He likes this site to so there you go pops.
