86 2.8 problems
I recently bought a 86 2.8 camaro, owner said that the car didnt run, and he wasnt sure why, so i get the car towed back to my garage and go over it, i hook up my fuel pressure gauge and i got no pressure, so i go through the whole thing fuses, and relay are good, so i go ahead and change the fuel pump, last night i get it back together with a fuel pump i had at the shop, change the fuel filter put gas in it and i prime the pump check for leaks with my gauge hooked up i am now only getting 10 psi, is it possible that something else can be wrong or do i have to take this thing back apart, the pump that i used is a v8 pump if that matters, please help !!!

Re: 86 2.8 problems
The pump that you used is apparently a TBI pump. You need a TPI pump. You need 40+ psi to be successful.

Re: 86 2.8 problems
If you used the correct pump and your still getting only 10 or so pounds than try to remember if you put the clamp back onto the fuelline AT the pump.
I recently saw this problem with my buddies S10 Blazer..... I gave him a fuel pump because his was dead and after we got it all back together he was only getting about 25 % of the required pressure. It turns out that when he installed the pump on the pick-up he didn't install the clamp. Most of the pressure was being lost at that connection. Once the clamp was installed and everything was re-connected - the track ran great.
Just something to think about if you used the correct pump !
P.S. Also - remove the fuel line before the filter and see what the pressure is at that point. If it's still real low than the problem is (obviously) in the tank, or the line leading from it to the filter. If it's good than there may be a blockage in the fuel line. I'm only bringing this up because you have never had the car running before !
