Re: water pump

I just had a socket on one bolt with a friend holding a breaker bar on an opposite bolt. Worked well for me.

Re: water pump

Did you try to crack them loose with the belt still on? You could also try an impact gun and/or heating them up with a torch.

Re: water pump

Soak them in PB blaster over night. That stuff can be your best friend when getting out stubborn bolts.

Re: water pump

Yeah, soak it with pb blaster. Also, I kept the belts on tight, so it held the pully. I also used a breaker bar on the opposite bolt. It was easier than I thought. Have a buddy to help.

Re: water pump

I have not tried to soak them in PB blaster yet, but I have tried a impact gun and not the little one and it did even come close to breaking it lose.

Re: water pump

Try a torch. Heat the suckers up and try moving them again.

If all else fails, cut them off with a dremel or similar tool. Just the bolt heads, so the pull falls right off. You can grab new bolts at the junkyard(it took me five minutes to get all four bolts off an engine there). You're replacing the water pump, so the remains in the old pump are moot.

Re: water pump

im in the process of doing the same thing. when you get the pump off make sure your gaskets good and that you rtv the heck out of it. i had to redo mine 3 times cause the rtv diddnt set right. to get them off just use a socket and a open bolt wrench and have a friend hold one wile u twist the other.
