Headers???

Ok so I just got my new headers in the mail today, (Pace Setters for my 2.8l firebird) and I was wondering... Should I pull the motor in order to put these on?? After all I'm pretty sure im gonna break some bolts trying to take off the 20 year old exhaust mainfolds. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Headers???

in my opinion, taking the motor out is way too much work for headers. just make a lot of working room.

Re: Headers???

Passenger side : take off alternator, egr, smog pump and hoses.
Drivers side : take off power steering pump.
Manifold bolts : smother in PB blaster and turn slowly and take out the pins too, they will just cause the header gasket to blow out much sooner.
Good Luck!!!!

Re: Headers???

There should be 2 out of the 6 bolts holding the exhaust manifold are pins. I believe on the passenger side there on the last cylinder and on the drivers side their on the first clyinder. sprayem down good and use a pair of vise grips to remove. You gotta put alot of as* behind them though.

Re: Headers???

Soak the bolts and studs in PB blaster overnight before you plan to put them on. By pins he means studs. I believe that there is only one on each head. One for the power steering bracket and one for the alt or idler pulley. When you pull the PS pump there is a bolt down low on the driver side of the block that you can't really see from the top. Also one of the headers has to go in from the bottom so having the car on jackstands or ramps would be required.

Re: Headers???

you'll have to drill em them out. Just keep spraying them with pb blaster. A good shot from a hammer can help brake loose some of the rust in there.
