intake question

Hey I am about ready to start up my motor after a rebuild. My question is can I start it up with out the top part of the intake on just the lower and the injecters. Cause i dont know how much room is there for adjusting the timing. Thanks for any help with this.

Re: intake question

Adjusting the timing can be done with the motor all together.

Re: intake question

I would think that starting an engine without the UIM/TB would be disasterous. There would be no way to regulate RPMs, they would shoot really high, and would probubly seize/blow-up your engine.
But than again Ive never heard of doing this so thats just a guess.

Re: intake question

would it shoot high though with no map/maf to read on? or would it use o2 sens and try to rectify? whatever DONT do it timing's easy all together and only takes ten mins.

Re: intake question

It would shoot way high and blow your motor. Without a TB to regulate the air the motor is going to take in air as if the TB was at WOT. The timing isn't that difficult to adjust with everything together. Just loosen the hold down bolt just enough so that you can turn it. The dizzy will rotate very easily.

Re: intake question

It does but it is a pain to hook up and disconnect the TB. I would just bypass it.

Re: intake question

Good to know that i can bypass it. Do I need to do anything speacal to it? And also on the back of the UIM. IS that where the brake line hucks up to? I know it needs vac on it to work.
