broken manifold stud

broken manifold stud

passenger side studs broke at y pipe connection.. any idea how to remove them?

If there is a part sticking out that you can grab...PB Blaster and Vise Grips. Make sure to soak them for a good while first. If not...they need to be drilled out.

Usually when they break it's easiest to just blow the stud out with a torch and use bolts and nuts when it goes back together.

Ha Ha, haven't you seen this commercial on TV like at 4 AM. I like when they remove a broken off bolt from what looks like some sort of cam or crank. Seems to me if it broke off in the first place, then your broken bolt will laugh at this thing. Hey, it's patented, so you know it's good!

Same happened to me when I put in a new 3.1. I ended up getting another manifold from the junkyard because the thing was rusted in there so tight.

I used one of those at work the other day. It's OK for smaller stuff. I used it on a countersunk screw which the head was stripped out, it actually drilled off the screw head before backing out the body of the screw.
