Which airbox is better? Stock 3.1L or stock 2.8L/TPI?

Does anyone know which airbox is better and why? I have a 91 so my car currently has the 3.1L. I replaced my stock airbox with one out of a 2.8L that is the same as the TPI just with the addition of the air temp sensor. Is this airbox any better than my stock one? I ask because last time I was at the junkyard I picked up a 4th gen windshield washer jug, but I forgot that the 2.8L intake won't let me use the jug.

The 2.8 is the better intake since it is a true CAI and flows way more than we need. What's the difference with the 4th gen washer jug?

board member "blue89" tested the 2.8 intake and it showed no restriction up to 5k rpms on a 2.8 v6.

my 3.1 was missing the factory intake..... so I installed a "warm air intake" just to get it running. Later swapped to the 2.8 intake and didnt notice a gain one way or the other. Just looked more proper.

So I suppose then I should just buy new washer and coolant jugs.

I do wonder though that even if the 2.8L intake flows better, if the 3.1L is making any use of it since it doesn't have a MAF.

We'll for my 88' 2.8L Pontiac Firebird MPFI i hate it's airbox setup it goes from the lower left fender area to the upper right along the raidiator to about the middle of it, then it shoots into my throttle body port.

and on my girlfriend's 87 chevy camaro 2.8L MPFI same engine...her air box goes from two air filters located in that big gap where the hood slams down where the hood latch is to the MAF and a straight pipe into the Throttle body, which i think is sick compared to my gay *** setup, wonder if can switch it..

The 2.8l air cleaner setup is w-a-y better then the stock 3.1l setup. In place of the MAF a soup can with some electrical tape works. The tape is to build up the ends for a snug fit.

Eventually you can get a piece of PVC. Cut it to length, turn the ends to the right size, bead blast the outside, and paint it flat black. Looks factory.

Will need to extend the IAT wires, just a simple cut & splice (solder, heat shrink).

RBob.

You can't swap. Its because of the Firebird's front end that you can't fit one. There is no hood clearance for them unlike on Camaros.

I love the Camaro set-up, it's alot less complicated, and the 87' interior has those neat screws for the radio, club box, etc, makes life alot less complicated.

My 88' has clips and the previous owner treated it like crap so it's falling apart.

As for 3.1. I traded a unkown maf to someone on here for a known bad maf. Then I gutted the bad maf and installed. If you hunt several years back, I took pics and made a tech writeup on all this.

Hey guys tell me if I'm wrong, everywhere I look it seems like there are more performance parts for the 2.8 then the 3.1, why is that?

They are the same motor pretty much. Its probably because the 3.1 only came in 91 and 92 and all the earlier years were the 2.8, most performance parts will work with either motor.
