how much hp can the stock drivetrain take?
i am planning on forced induction and was wondering what a safe number to aim for is. i will be getting a transgo kit for the 700r4 so without having to upgrade anything else how much do you think it can handle?

GM rates them for 300hp. Not sure if the v6 trans will hold up the same, internals are slightly different. I did a thread called "Improving early th700's" a while back that has some useful info you might want to check out.

Even lower on power rating. They never put them behind any 350s they were so weak.

Ive heard that the V8 700r4 and V6 700r4 internals were the same, the bellhousing is just different. Did I get the wrong info?

The early v8 and v6 th700's are the same, but later v8 models use beefier internals (30 spline input shaft and other hardware). I'm not entirely certain, but I don't believe the v6 trans benefited from the later components. Your trans should put up with 300hp depending on it's condition.

HOW TO BREAK A T-5 in less than an hour
1. bolt T-5 to a stock LT1 (using the LT1 as example due low end power)
2. powershift your T-5
3. If you stop moving the fun is over and your T-5 is dead already
4. open up the T-5 and see what you have destroyed
5. cry because you should of bolted up a T-56 to our LT1
It doesn't matter if your T-5 is bolted to a 60* V6 or a LT1, it will break if you abuse it

[quote=zs&tas;3723576] No point
just buy a T-56 or a TKO 600, though the Getrag type 233 V160/161 were difficuilt to break on a MKIV, i've heard stories of those stock 6 spd holding up to 1000rwhp
