BAd gas mileage :(

i have had some major let down recently as my first car ( my 88 2.8 camaro)
has been getting really bad gas mileage i am not sure why i have replaced the o2 sensor, the temp sensor that the comp reads, checked my compression, done regular maitnece, fixed all my vacuum lines but the car still gets bad mileage and when it is cold like when i first start it up it has tons of power but once it is warm it works like crap it would be much appreciated if someone could help me figure out this problem as i can not afford to drive it in its current state im not sure if this could be right but i have been talkiing with my frineds and we thought of two possible things it could be one the cold start injector could be malfunctioning>??? causiong it to have power when cold but once it warms upo gets stuck open wasting gas and losing power??? and the seciond one i believe i read somewhere and it was the knock sensor? i am not quite sure as i dont know a whole lot about this fuel injected kind of vehicle........ all help as said before would be much appreciated

Re: BAd gas mileage :(

What do you mean by bad gas mileage? And how many miles are on the motor? Those numbers might help suggest whether this is just an older motor that isn't as efficient as it used to be, or if there's something unusual going on.

Re: BAd gas mileage :(

When it starts running like crap, unplug your Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and see if that changes anything.

Re: BAd gas mileage :(

ok to answer the first question my engine light may be on but i am not sure when i bought it it was redone by the guy who i bought it from it is my first car and i know now it may have not been the smartest purchase i cant find the check engine light :$ i took off the plastic cover and there isnt even a plug for a light bulb??; next hmm by bad gas mileage i mean i burn about8 or 9 dollars in 15 or 20 min i think this is pretty bad this was actually a coiuple weeks ago before gas went up soo much i am not even sure what it uses now as i cant really afford to run it, as for miles on the motor is 36572(7) that is what the dash reads but i am not sure if the odometer has already rolled over and i also cant guarentee that the motor in it hassnt been redone i have no clue really about it as the guy never told me a whole lot; and thirdly thanks for the tip i will trry that and see if it runs anybetter ill let you know soon......im not sure thoough if what i am thinkng you are thinking will work because if you are just going to get it to run off of the codes it saved when it was running right i doubt there would be any since it has ran like this since i got it and i have reset the computer when i installed my stereo system. .....:$ thanks for all the help guys i really apprecite it as i cant afford a mechanic to look at it

Something smells fishy i dont agree with your odometer its very rare to have one that low and it shouldn't even give you problems if that is correct. Do your self a favor take your to local police department and get that vin check you might be a victim of odometer roll back. How much did you pay? 2.8L aren't the best engines put in a F-body

Re: BAd gas mileage :(

Had a similar problem but it was running really rich and just fell on its nose after 3500 rpms. Right now I am rebuilding the top end and when I pulled the heads "Suprise" its a 3.4 and the gaskets used for the intake were overlaping the port. So I have been porting the intake and I replaced the injectors with stock 3.4 and I have been gasket matching from heads on up. I hope the port and polish and injectors will fix the problem if not then I have a couple of ideas.
