f***ing amazing!

I just ran 0-60 in 5 secs. I don't know the offical time but I have a pretty steady count in my head. To me this is a very good time. I'm running an auto so I let off the gas at 40 mph @ 3k rpms and floored it to 6,000 rpms @ 60 mph. My car is stock im excited!

I do have a question tho... It took a 1/8th tank of gas just doing that. Maybe I have a leak?

Still not convinced. It takes over 17sec for a 3.1 to go over 75mph.

My neighbor's 327 powered Fiero might pull of a 5 sec 0-60, but a 100whp car that weighs over 3 grand isn't going to. Do you know how fast 0-60 in 5 secs is? That would beat 90% of the cars on the road, minimum.

Re: f***ing amazing!

Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile MethodYour camaro weighs about 3300 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 14.0 seconds. That means that you've got about 237.69 HP at the wheels, and about 309.00 HP at the flywheel.

mine actually wieghs just a tad over 3300 again time for another serious diet

but still 6psi of boost for a 140 hp gain at the tires im dam happy

no that calculator states u need aprox 300 hp at the crank to make a 300 pound car go 0-60 in 5 seconds, ur stock 3.1 makes aprox 85-105 hp to the tires and 140 hp at the crank not even half of what it takes to go 0-60 in 5 seconds

Re: f***ing amazing!

Lol, he's probably young.

I remember about 5 years ago when I first got my Beretta I could have sworn it went 120mph. I went on a forum talking about it and everyone said "no way, you'd have to have your governor removed" which I had no clue about back then. the next day I went out took it up to 100...110..112... vvvvrrrrmmmmm. Started slowing down.
I was quite embarrassed that I stuck with my (false) story, because I was so young I couldn't let it hurt my pride that I was making an idiot out of myself.

If my 3.1L Camaro pulled 5 second 0-60's (not even stock) I'd mess my pants, I'd be so happy... but no way. Unless the car is completely stripped to nothing and you through some NAWS in there, no way. 7 seconds? Maybe. 8's believable, anything under is hard to believe really.

edit: If your phone has a camera, it's probably got a stop watch, time yourself with that. Or get a watch with a second hand or something. You must have counted way too fast.

Here's my STOCK 3.1L V6 with slight engine problems (running rich or something, I suspect) doing about an even 10 second 0-60.

0-60 miles per hour? in 5 seconds?
more likely 0-60 km per hour.
are you looking at kph or mph on your tach gauge?

Hmm, you might be right here. Sounds a lot more like it. 60kmh = 37mph.

Re: f***ing amazing!

I really wish desktop dyno was more accurate than it is. Powercurves don't last that long in an engine.

As for 0-60 in 5 seconds with a stock 3.1? Not possible, not even for the best running stock L98's, you know those factory freaks.

This is 0-60 in about 5 seconds, or pretty close to it, and it wasn't a stock L98 either. Pretty soft launch, might have gotten going faster on a track, but this was done from the side of a highway. http://media.putfile.com/zero-2-115

I am in no way saying you couldn't get a stock n/a v6 thirdgen to do it, but no stock one will. In fact the only stock thirdgen I think would have a chance and running to 60 in 5 seconds would be a 89 TTA. Motor trend reported the stock TTA running to 60 in 5 seconds with a 1/4 mile in the low 13's.

I know it's not a perfect program, but Dynomation also said I will be over 300 at the crank with my combination. Superdave (purple89ta) used DD to find his cam specs as well. DD showed him making 350bhp, and he actually made 273whp (aprox 319bhp) - some of that was due to the cam mfgr not giving him the exact grind requested, they did the same thing to me

Dave, not sure what you are asking.

The day after I bought my V6 a buddy of mine offered me a full 5.7 TPI motor/tranny/ECM/all the rest of the goodies. I turned it down.
We dont car about all that V8 crap. Take it somewhere else. If we find anyone who wants to put in a V8 we will send them your way. Until then keep your "V8s are better" attitude out of the V6 section.

Im still glad it is a v6. Good gas mileage finally paying off. I also got an offer for a V8. And Im not going to rip the engine out of my daily driver. IMO V6 are the best daily drivers, and a Z28 for the weekends

... Ummmm, I can't speak for these guys, but if we could get V8's, we'd probably have them. I know I would. Troll much?
On this subject though, I would like to say, a turboed V6 would probably get more respect than a V8 if it was faster than the V8, at least from anyone who knows anything.

Troll much?? What? Anyway and it might you are correct BUT, if you are gonna say a turboed V-6 then we might want to compare apples to apples and say it would be up against a turboed V-8. And by the way I would still rather have a BONE STOCK V-8 than a turboed V-6.

You can pick up a V-8 for 500-600 bucks. But anyway I was not talking to the people who would get a V-8 if they could. It was centered about the guy from PA who said he had a chance to get a V_8 and didn't because .

How about you take your trash talk back to Engine Swap, or better yet, off the boards entirely? If you've got something bad to say about the v6, take it elsewhere. This forum isn't for the pros/cons of the v6, it's for those who have already decided to stick with it.

Exactly. It seems like you just came in here to trash talk V6's and say how much better V8's are. Most of us understand that... no need to do it. This is all about constructive talk about the V6 3rd gens, not trying to get people to get v8s.

OK OK OK I get it calm down I was just playin. I didn't know the V-6 forum was so serious. I'm glad I got a V-8. Back to engine swap?? What are you talking about?? Anyway don't worry there I am going elsewhere now.

Sorry to offend anybody I was just playin'. V-6's are cool okay, my wife has one in her minivan. LMAO. No really I didn't mean anything by it. I wasn't trying to bag on the V-6 I honestly dont know why someone would rather have one in a Gen3 rather than a V-8. And I am not talking about if you could get one . LOOK AT GRIMMCS. Thats what I was talking about. Once again I apologize if I offended anyone thats not what is was about.

Re: f***ing amazing!

haha look what i started. i was just pointing out to the one kid that he didnt have much of a leg to stand on when talking down to RAZ....cause yeah yall are the same age and u might have some more experience then him but we are not gods, everyone says or does something dumb sometime.....i could care less if u have a v6 or v8 really unless a v6guy starts talking crap to a v8 then yeah that entire "senior in highschool" mentality comes into play. Now there are exceptions a turbo v6 are cool and can whip alot of v8s....but anyways like i originally said cut the kid some slack hes young and excited about his car, he is wanting to learn, he isnt coming in here with all these bad habits and half truths that we are almost all stuck with...hes virginal to cars and openminded we can help him learn all the right things and prevent one more Ric er....

And why are you dragging me into this? How is my car relevant to this conversation? I was only stating a true statement. Aren't LS1's 0-60 around 5 seconds. I was only saying race one to see if Raz car can do 0-60 in 5 secs (which I doubht). I have the money to buy an LS1 F-body if I wanted to. Why dont I? 1. There nothing wrong with my car. 2. The price I paid back in '06 for my car was an awesome deal for an excellent running soon to be daily driver. 3. National average is close to $4 a gallon now. Whos car going to be hurting the most? I suggest you leave this forum because we don't want people telling us V8's are better. None of us here give a ****ing **** about how good V8's are. If we wanted a V8 we probably would go buy one.

No one was bashing on a V-6. Where do you guys get this from? I don't know about anyone else with a V-8 but I didn't buy it for MPG. I bought it for the same reason I like Camaro's.....ITS WHAT HOT ROD ARE MADE OF!!!!
