infl rest

I have a 1991 firebird and when I rev. it up to about 3000 rpm the car starts to dog down, and the infl rest light starts flashing, and then when put it in drive and start to go the car stops running and it will not start back up for a couple of hours, and all that happens is the infl rest light comes on.

Re: infl rest

infl rest = inflatable restraint (airbag) it's supposed to come on
every time you start your car, it does a little self check and the
light lets you know it's working

Re: infl rest

So the inflatable restraint or infl rest could be my problem.

Re: infl rest

That would be a place to start but by the sounds of it the problems are either unrelated or the engine problem is causing the restraint problem some how.

Re: infl rest

I dont believe that the airbag would cause your engine to bog down or cause problems. Im not 100% on that, but it just dosent sound right to me.
I think that you may have a problem with your airbag...but you have a problem somewhere else as well

Re: infl rest

The light is not causing your engine problems, most likely coming on due to the key on engine off scenario. It sounds like your engine may be flooding out... after it dies try pushing the pedal all the way to the floor and hold it there, then try cranking the engine and see if it starts back up again.
