2.8l mpfi runs bad lately
2.8l mpfi runs bad lately
we took it to the garage yesterday because the fan doesint turn on and he ran a computer test on it and he said the mass flow sensor is bad think the code was in the 30s forgot... could be 32 or 34 he said. he said theres a bad vacume leak somewere.
but the car is acting realy bad reving up and down in park and feels like the engine is jumping and shakeing sometimes.
and when the car is runing for like 15min or 30min the car will loose alot of power and when driveing you could feel the engine skiping like something is holding it back.
will the mass flow sensor cause this?
also the light stays on all the time and you could smell fumes and stuff pretty much like farts... lol and its eating alot of gas to..
light has never stayed on sense we own it till 2weeks ago when it came on...
sometimes back than the light whould just come on sometimes and smell but the fix was pull over and turn it off and start it back up and the light was off.
seems like all these problem happen when the fan decided to not come on nomore... right now we got the fan hook up to a toggle switch.
hopefully this is the right thread to post this.

my experience is that the car will run with out the maf - certainly not as bad as you say. have you tried disconecting the maf to see what happens ? id also check the fuel pressure. it could be many things really - whats the millage ? a bad cat - clogged up will make it run really crap like that ?

The car will run without the MAF, mine ran pretty smooth without it for a couple of days. What you are describing sounds like a large vaccum leak. Inspect all of the vaccum lines and seals in the manifold. The fan not working won't cause any of what you are describing.

A MAF that is acting up will cause some very funky issues. Mine would randomly stall when it was acting up. Ran fine without it, though.
Re: 2.8l mpfi runs bad lately
we dissconnected the maf today and it didint make any diffrence all it did is made the check engine light stay off for couple secs than it does with it connected.
car has about 93,000miles.
also will a crack intake boot cause this? because its pretty bad in shape were it slips on the intake.
also we didint check the fuel pressure or for the cat - clogged up for those ony a garage could check it right?
seems like all this happen when we was trying to get the fan runing changeing fan relays and stuff.
like when we put a new fan relay down on the passgerside by the can and the check engine light came on.
so we tried the old one back on and it still did it...
this was like 2weeks ago the last 5days it started to run this bad.
but ya we orderd a new intake boot hopeing that whould fixed it if that whould cause theses problem? because we had to take that off alot to get to the fan relay.

so prob not maf then, that boot should help, id be surprised if its causing all those issues though, cats easy just get under there undo a few clamps and yank it. see if it has any crap blocking it up.

also will this fit the 2.8l? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PONTI...spagenameZWDVW
i herd the 2.8l and 3.1l is pretty much the same.
also if that does fit do i need the maf? because it looks like it unlimitmates everything.
and will it pass emission with out the maf?
still didint get the boot yet... should get it tomarlo.
but i wanted to ask about that air intake induction befor i buy it if i buy it.

Yes, you need the MAF. Is your car a Camaro? If so, you don't need that. It has a cold air intake already with the dual snorkel up front.
Re: 2.8l mpfi runs bad lately
wanted to let you guys know i got it fixed
after puting in like 2 mafs... and couple relays a boot and plugs wires which it did need thoses because they was dry rotted.
2 places said it was a bad maf but they didint know or tell me about it has a fuse wtf? lol we also asked advance auto parts and they said they never herd of a fuse or relay for the maf...
and it was a fuse for the maf thats on the passager side rail was burnt.
pop that on and the light went off and the car runs normal and has alot of power now even made a roar comeing out of the pipes
and i found the info for the fuse on thirdgen.org
so i want to thank thirdgen.org for the info
if it wasint for this site the car problee whould never be the same and be still spending more money on it...
