2.8 to 3.1 or 3.4 I am not sure???

Hey guys I have been to my local u pull it a couple times and there are some camaros there with 305s and stuff... There are **** loads of 3400 3800tpi 3500 every gm v6 imaginable but all FWD. What could I get to bolt onto my 2.8 to give it more powa! Can I bolt on 3.4 heads and pistons or what.. I know very little about compatability between the FWD motors and my 60 deg RWD.

Just do a 3.4 swap. Heads aren't that much different from your 2.8 if there is any at all. Trust me you'll like the jump up.

No difference in the 2.8/3.1/3.4 heads. Using FWD pistons will boost your compression. If you have easy access to getting late model FWD engines, get a 3.4L RWD bottom end, 3400 FWD pistons(someone correct me if I'm wrong here) and 3500 heads and intake. That's forcedfirebird's project right there.

The FWD will lower compression won't they? If you use some pistons from a 3.4 DOHC motor it will give you compression at about 10:1

I guess I got my motors mixed up. 3400 pushrod vs 3400 DOHC? I believe grimmcs is using the ones that up the compression, so check out his thread (Man Down...Time for new car.

Re: 2.8 to 3.1 or 3.4 I am not sure???

If you bolt FWD heads onto RWD pistons, your compression will be to high.

So if you use RWD heads and FWD pistons, it will be to low.

Now, to the orginal poster. Are you wanting to do a block swap, or just pick up a few parts to make some power?

If your wanting to simply grab some parts off a FWD motor and put on a RWD motor. Sorry, your s.o.l.. It is a very technical process and very few have went into that water.

somplest things is a stright up 3.4 swap,i went 2.8 to 3.1 cause i had pistons and everything already, but the best swap is to go directly to the 3.4

I always mix up my motors. I know for a fact that the stock 3400 DOHC pistons will net you ~10:1 compression as I have a whole set sitting right next to me.

maro/bird was the only thing to get the RWD 3.4.

The DOHC pistions mentioned above are from a FWD car. IIRC beretta?

Yes that compression is pump gas and stock tune safe. The f-body is the only vehicle to get the RWD 3.4.

Re: 2.8 to 3.1 or 3.4 I am not sure???

are we talking about maybe a 3x00 head swap? its not that hard is it? just get the pistons and top end off a FWD bolt that on, then figure out a way to make the crank trigger work. isn't that basically it?
