Smog/AC delete...

Today I deleted the smog and AC. Replaced the AC pump with an idler pully from a Chrysler Van , and the smog pump I just bypassed with a revised belt routing. Now that this is done I have a few concerns. One, there is a weatherpack connection and a vac. line coming from the back of the pump. The Vac line runs up to a "T" between the FPR and the TB, I just plugged the line and left the weatherpack hang there. No codes yet, should I expect any? Seccond, due to the long distance between the ALT. pulley and the crank pulley; the belt flaps and vibrates a little with engine speed. Its not bad really, but is it likely that I will throw the belt?

Oh, its a 92RS 3.1 V6 TH700-R4. And I can provide pics if needed.

Thanks,
Max

You won't throw any codes. The only vac lines that I have that come from the TB is just the one for the FPR. You don't have to use an idler pulley where the AC was either. For where the smog pump was you can find an idler pulley from a 2.8, not sure if it will ever pop off but better safe than sorry.

I replaced the AC with a pulley. Its the smog pump that I bypassed all together. I"ll post some pics tomorrow when I have daylight.

Here are some pics. You can see the distance between the pulleys that I was concerned about. The AC delete was a snap though, the pulley just bolted right to the old bracket with a few washers for spacing. Tell me what you think.

Re: Smog/AC delete...

Thanks for the replies. Glad to see there are others who have done this without problems.

Street Lethal, I tried to run my belt like yours but for some reason I had clearance issues. Thats why I added the idler where the AC pump used to be. Dosent create any more drag, and I get the same result.

Thanks again,
Max

I had clearance issues with the water pump. A worn idler pulley was the problem. A brand new one works, though the clearance is very close.

I suspected that the spring in the tensioner was worn. Dosent matter now though, thanks to the van I canabalized for parts.
