Engine: 2.8 v6
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: think its stock
Is the ses light suppose to come on when key is turned to the on position?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but is the ses light suppose to come on when key is turned to the on position?

Yes, its when nit stays on when the car is running is when you have a trouble code.
