is this normal? getting pretty hot but not overheating
i was drivin to the race track the other day and i was getting on the freeway but i got stuck in some rush hour traffic and i looked at my temp guage and it was at 200 but its been there before so i wasnt to worried. then a few minutes later i looked at it again it was at 220, then a few minutes later(still in stop and go traffic) it hit 240, now i starting to get a little worried so i turned on the heater on full and that lowered the temp a tad. once i got going about 50-60 it started to cool down but never went down past 200.
could these be a stuck thermostat?? or just a bad one
what about the air dam on the bottom of the car mine is curbed pretty bad would a new one help get air to the radiator?

All I ve done to mine was the TB coolant bypass, I have a true cold air/ramair
[airs come for directly outside into engine]
And I made my own front replacement for the air dam.
Was all broken to bits from curbs.
Took a piece of aluminum drip edge and stomped it flat, painted it black and screwed it on.
Also the AC rad was removed [ac no wokie]
Long as I am moving it never goes over 180, that is without a fan.
I don't run a fan, its switched and turned off 99.8% of the time.
I only turn the fan on a few tiems a year sitting in a long line at the drive through or at the bank, no problems even in slow traffic.
Though its also a stick, so I don't have the trans pumping heat into the water.

Not unusual, the stock calibration turns the fan on at 226 F. Unless the A/C is on. Then the fan is on whenever the A/C pressure switch is open (high pressure in A/C system).
Of course if you are using the "cosmetic gage package" for engine temperature, the real engine temperature can be far from that reading.

Its real cheesy and there is nothing special about it, cept thats it there.
Its somerthing I had laying around that was stiff enough and fit right and unless up close you can't tell. [needed some paint in pics, as it hold up well to curbs.]

You just need that front lip to catch fresh air and feed it up.
I found that out when I tried to make a front spoiler, looked real cool but screwed up the air flow from down there and my temps went up up up and it cam off off off.

It actually sounds like you have a radiator cooling fan that's inop for some reason. That's why it only happened when you got into stop-and-go traffic. Under cruise conditions, the natural air flow across the radiator forces air through and cools the coolant, but in low speed conditions, the fan is needed for airflow. Warm you car up and see if the fan comes on right around the 230* mark, if it doesn't you will need to check out the power and control circuits for you radiator fan to get it working again.
Re: is this normal? getting pretty hot but not overheating
ok ill try that but how do i heat it up to 230, should i go on the free way and find stop and go traffic then pull over and check, or is there a easier way

Can just leave it sit and idle in the driveway. Leave the A/C off, otherwise it will turn the fan on.
