Does anybody make an ac delete or smog pump delete pulley for the 3.1 v6?

Re: ac delete/ smog pump delete

don't need a delete pulley for it go to auto parts store and get a new belt you need one with out ac and smog..the shorter belt goes on the same but minus the ac and smog..did it on my 2.8and works fine

Re: ac delete/ smog pump delete

unless you're looking for weight savings taking off the ac is pretty much pointless. the compressor has a clutch built into the pulley so it doesn't drag until you turn on the ac. the smog pump is a great thing to get rid off though. some cars had an idler pulley in place of the smog pump stock. snowman383 is right though, you'll need a new belt. but it's worth it.

I'm 90% sure we can use both v8 delete pulleys.

Re: ac delete/ smog pump delete

I have a underdrive crank pulley on my motor so would the shorter non ac belt still work or would i need a custom length one?

you are right about the drag, BUT, there is still gonne be the rotational mass there. it might help acceleration somewhat if you do get rid of it.

...Until you've run without A/C for so long that the pulley bearings go out and the whole thing freezes. Almost got to that point, phew.

Remove the smog pump, remove the A/C compressor (make sure the system is empty first), go out and get a non-A/C, non-AIR belt, change the mounting of the power steering pump and remove the rear bracket, put your belt on and go.

:edit: And, yes, you CAN use V8 1LE delete pulleys, but then you're shelling out a ton of unnecessary money when you could just buy a $22 belt and go... Heck, you might even be able to get some of that money back by taking the brackets to a recycler (they're both big hunks of aluminum).

Re: ac delete/ smog pump delete

Wow, $22 for a belt? My pulley was less than that.

Re: ac delete/ smog pump delete

I was thinking about atking my smog pump off (free HP right). Is that a hard thing to do?
and what size belt do you need after it's removed? Will they know at a parts store?

Re: ac delete/ smog pump delete

let me start off by saying I know very little about AC or smog pumps.
I've been thinking about doing an ac delete, but what if i just take the belt off? same thing for the smog pump. If I leave them on the motor, but just take the belts off of them what would it mess anything up?

You can take the smog pump off without doing any damage to anything, but you might want to find something to block off the valving with, otherwise you could be venting exhaust out of the hoses and valves. Second, you CAN'T just bypass the A/C compressor without a custom length belt, which you would have to measure yourself and hope you get a belt close to what you need for length. The non-A/C, non-AIR belt is too short to just slap it on the alt, p/s, w/p, and the others and just go. Been there and tried that, had to return the belt because of it.

jensen, you do realize that you would have to buy the pullies AND the belt, right? So, assuming you bought the pulley for, let's say, $15, you'd still need the other (unless you don't have one or the other accessories already) at, say, another $15, and you still need a belt to go with it, at $20+ (unless your existing one is still good, of course, but then, why add something else that can fail mechanically when all you need to do is change a mounting bolt around?). The 815K6 non accessory belt is $22, and the 915K6 belt with A/C is $27, bought both within the same month (ruined my existing 915K6 with coolant from a water pump problem). BTW, most delete pullies I have seen ANYWHERE are in the ballpark of $80...

Re: ac delete/ smog pump delete

i'm going to assume that this thread is conserning a car with a serpentene belt system; because on a car witha v-belt system, ( this is a term i came across recently and i am going to assume it is a term used for a non- serpentene system since, well, the system does make a v shape) could one not just remove the belt and have a non-functioning acsessory or remove the acsessory completely and no need for the belt since it appears that the drives are not depentent on each other for belt tension?

Re: ac delete/ smog pump delete

an easy way to see what size belt you will need is to take a small-diameter peice of rope, and run it through the pulleys, AFTER you remove the ones you want to, then take a zip-tie or a small nail and pull the rope tight and hook them together. then take it to the parts store!
