Just bought Pacestters

Found the headers for 220$ @ Partstrain.com

Does anyone have any good tips for installing them? Would I have to remove/lift up the engine?

Remove/lift engine? No, but you need to jack up the front of the car and put it on jackstands. I found the y-pipe to exhaust manifold bolts are easier to get to from below the car.

The hardest parts of removing exhaust is the bolts and separating the old pipes. I would soak them with PB Blaster and leave them overnight...and hope you don't break any bolts in the heads. Its pretty straight forward though.

Re: Just bought Pacestters

Killert, what product number? There were 3 different headers that said for the V6 on partstrain, one for $206, $227, and $4xx for the ceramic ones. If it's this cheap, I'm going to get them from there.

Re: Just bought Pacestters

i believe that the site has mislabeled the $205 set. The part number is for a Camaro from 78-81 with the 231 cu. in V6. Just as a warning.

Re: Just bought Pacestters

That's very good to know, was just a little confused, so the 1206 part number is the 2.8/3.1?

Re: Just bought Pacestters

S&H was about 14$

But I live about an hour and a half from where it was shipped, Pittston PA

Do the headers get put in from the top or bottom?

Much cheaper than summitracing, it's $278 + $12 s/h. So I'm definately getting them from partstrain.

Yeah, I was getting ready to order them from summit and did some looking around out of boredom found they were cheaper at partstrain, I've already ordered from there a few times so it worked out well. They have great service

Re: Just bought Pacestters

Yeah, I compared some prices, just a few, and the headers were the only thing cheaper that I could find, other than that, summit is the way to go. But yeah, PM me when you get the headers all together, I would like to know how it goes before I buy some. That is if I get money for my VW or this one person decides to trade me their 3rd gen.

Re: Just bought Pacestters

If i remember correctly you can out one in from the top but the other has to go in from the bottom, something you really should look into is the old VW header gaskets, search for it a thread should come up with the part number. Other than that its pretty much straight forward but you might want to set aside a whole day to do it cause getting those old header bolts out REALLY suck! Oh and im not sure if they ever fixed it or not, but i had to drill a new hole in the flange that the EGR bolts to because the holes did not line up.

Re: Just bought Pacestters

Well,
MY dad (who's a mechanic) Wont let me install them unless I have an extra set of heads for the car to put on and he said it will be too much work. So the car is for sale with the headers NIB for 1800$ and if you want the POSI 9bolt w/ disk brakes from a GTA with it 2000$ (not installed either) and either way it will come with new Firestone tires I haven't put on yet.

My mom told me to just get a V8 car. Lol

Re: Just bought Pacestters

Its not a guarantee that you will break any. When I took off my old manifolds, all the bolts that had heads on them came right out...and I never used PB Blaster. And the ones that had been broken since I bought it, twisted out with some PB and my vise grips. Now if you break them flush with the heads...that's a problem. But selling a car because of a possibility?? You'll never have another car if you live by that.
