Guys I need your help

OK I KNOW this is not really the right place to post this and everything but i have a problem and i need your guys advice. I know you guys in the v6 section the best as you have all helped me out alot. I know a guy that is selling his firebird gta. Doesnt really want to sell it but wants to see if it will sell so he can do other projects. Heres the what the email he sent me about it says it has...

71k on body
LS1 out of a 99 vette with 40k on it
hot cam (218/228 .525/.525 lift 112 lsa) and ls6 valve springs
sub frame connectors
6 point roll cage with romovable door bars
boxed control arms in rear
9 bolt borg warner with 3.45 posi
automatic
WS6
newer style trans am wheels
Weiand aluminum intake manifold
this car ran 13.00 1/4 mile before the cam and intake, should be mid 12s now

There are pictures and everything. Its in great shape and looks great. Motor install looks clean and very well done. Everything looks good on it. He only wants 4500 for it.

SO now idk what to do. Ive put alot of money and time and memories into my 91 and honestly i like the look of the 91 better but the 86 is everything i ever wanted in my 91. Should i buy this 86 and sell my 91? I mean i LOVE my car but ive found rust and other stupid things. The suspension all needs to be done, i want to do an ls1 swap, i want a roll cage after the ls1 swap, and the list goes on. The 86 has everything i want already done. Problem is idk if i could sell my car for enough to make it worth it.

Just looking for opinions. BTW if i do buy it i will never leave the v6 section for good. Ill always post in here and help out as much as i can. Hopefully you guys can help me out in this decision as right now im to scared to let go of my baby lol.

Re: Guys I need your help

you could always swap the 91's bumpers and ground effects onto the gta, I assume that would require some paint work.

4500 for the GTA sound like a good price with all the work thats been done. And its alot cheaper to buy the car with the work done than to have it done to the car you have now.

Re: Guys I need your help

I'm new here, but couldn't resist reading your predicament. A couple of things come to mind.......

1. Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor would say: "Huuuhhh?? Vette engine = More Power."

2. Somewhere Louise "Weezy" Jefferson would sing: "♫ Well, were movin' on up. ♫"

3. I'd say your post represents your inner desire to buy it. Go with your heart.

Re: Guys I need your help

^^Haha that made me laugh

and ya i know my heart and "long term wallet" says jump on this deal...but my father(yes im only 19 guys i still live at home lol) says keep what you have and work with that. He thinks its alot of money and says the insurance will just eat me alive. Which is another concern of mine.

Either way the biggest problem is i dont have 4500 on hand. I would have to sell my firebird and hope to get like $3200 for it and then sell my sled for 1400; and hope that what ever one goes for a lil less i have the difference on hand to make it up. I mean i have some money im not broke but at 19 im not living the rich life in any way.

Idk to me its tooooo good of a deal to pass up. Its everything I want for a margin of the price it would cost me. **** i got qouted for rust repair and paint close to 2200 and if you add 6 grand for an ls1 build in my car(guessing the total cost) that alone outways what it would cost me to just buy this car. ERRRRR i wish i had the 4500 just laying around! I guess at the same time im only 19 and should just apprieciate what i have for now and hope for better later. It just kills me to see a deal like this pass through my fingers. Its like dropping the football in the last 3 seconds of the game knowing that had to be caught to win the game!

Sorry for the life problems lol. Just looking for others opinons on this stuff. My parents just think im stupid but they have absolutly no passion in cars at all. I say "my passion for cars was like your passion in making kids". I have 5 brothers, which in my eyes is about 1 million per kid so whos the money smart one now!! Haha ok enough rantin and raving. Either way im looking for your guys opinions.

Do you guys think i could get $3200 for my car? It has 77,xxx orginal miles on it right now. Car runs great. Has some surface rust(behind the paint just starting to bubble); I mean i show this car at shows and get compliments and everythign so its not a crap car at all. Its completly stock other then the exhaust which isnt crazy loud or anything, its actually quite nice and peacefull. I guess only thing aftermarket is the system and a-piller gauges which both would be taken off and kept for myself. I have the stock radio and all that. So for the execption of the exhaust it would be a completely stock 77,xxx orginal mile 91 firebird.

Same advice I'm giving my son on his 89 RS 2.8 (gotta love us dad's, lol). It started out as a real bucket of bolts 2 months ago, and now that we got it rolling pretty good, a friend of his, who is a Camaro fan big-time, offered him a grand for it. "Not with all the sweat I've poored into it," I said. And he's starting to come down from the high of having an offer made for it. We still have such a long way to go, but it is fun teaching him how to turn wrenches.

Now that I understand your situation a little better, I have to say I agree with your dads' advice. There will be many good deals in your future. Probably best to wait until you're in a little better situation to take advantage of them when they come along.

My older son (also 19) has a '98 Z28, and yes, the insurance is running about two bills a month. He has a steady job, but with all the other things he likes to do, his paycheck doesn't go as far as he'd like it to with the insurance payment.

This is only my opinion, as a fellow member, and a father. And, I know you would like to get the GTA, but reason it out.

Re: Guys I need your help

See thats the advice i really wanted to get. I was expecting everyone to just say oh ya go for it blah blah. I wanted a real honest opionin and i got that. Id have to say thank you for helping me out. See I do have a steady job too as the senior sales guy at the local fastenal store(believe it or not im the senior sales, obviously in time being there not age lol) Either way its a good job and i make pretty decent money but just like your son i have alot of other hobbies, one of them being the ladies and having fun on the weekends which just about eats up every dollar I save to put into extras for the firebird.

To me my firebird is fun but its not all that i wanted in a car. The first time we went and looked at it i told my dad i dont want it cause its a 6. He continually pushed me to buy it cause it was a good deal(2500 for it and it had 68xxx orginal miles) I didnt know alot about these cars back then and would have looked at certain areas better to find some rust i didnt know would even form in those locations! Either way the car is nice and i take it to shows and everything and get compliments all the time. Idk i guess i just need to appreciate what i have and hope for more later on.

I have that young kid mentality still that I want the best of everything now and will do anything i can to get that NOW! I did just get a 2006 dodge ram 1500 slt with 20,xxx miles for 8 grand tho. Which is now my new winter vehicle as the old one died. Thats the thing that really is killing me is that i could have gotten something crappier instead of a pretty much brand new truck, despite it being a great deal, and used the extra to buy the gta and sell my car and sled(i hate the snow, idk why i used to love riding that thing!) Either way things happen for a reason.

I just found out from the guy with the gta that the motor will need a good tune to make it perfect (recomended new era performance which i know is a good place), it also still has the 700r4 attached to it. More and more i really look at the little details it sounds like this all happened for a good reason the way it did so oh well.

Either way i still want an ls1 lol

Re: Guys I need your help

Back in the '80's (I was in my 20's), I had a '73 Cuda 340 with a 727 Torqueflight. Loved that car. It had the typical rust in both rear quarter panels, but an overall great car. I was transfered to England (U.S. Air Force), and had to let it go, as the rust would have gotten worse (money was tight on G.I. budget), and the gas would have killed me. I really miss that car.

My dream has been a '72 Vette. But, marriage, kids, etc. keeps my dream at arms length. Soon, my younger son will graduate high school and then we'll see what happens.

So, you've got solid transportation for your job (Ram 1500) and a fun car (Firebird) at 19, eh? Sounds like you're doing it right. Best of luck to ya.

Re: Guys I need your help

The only problem I see is that the GTA didn't come out until 1987.
