Interest in V6 (2.8/3.1/3.4) Tubular K-Member?
Hey guys, would there be any interest for a Tubular K-Member for the 2.8/3.1/3.4 cars on here? There might be one coming out soon (if I can get my k-member out this weekend) and wondering how many people would actually want one

It would bolt up just like stock. Spohn is thinking of making them for us, I need to send them my K-member and such and they will make a JIG and build one. They are considering selling them so I thought I'd see if there was any interest. pricing would probably be spot on with there V8 versions I would think

So this would be like the one they already sell but with the 60v6 mount pads on it?
This might make my project a littler easier.. i was going to use the regular SBC version and modify the pads to work with my FWD block...
I'm interested but it'll be February or so before i'll be needing it...

If the weight savings is right, I'm in.

If I remember right the V6 and V8 motor mount bolt holes are pretty much both right on top of each other on the factory k-members.

Our unbolt and drop out yes Gumby, and the V6 holes are further back on the K-member than the V8. It sounds easy to just move the mounting pad back a little or make it big enough to have both bolt holes but they want to make a JIG specifically for it.

Re: Interest in V6 (2.8/3.1/3.4) Tubular K-Member?
Probably not very impact resistant???
GM did put that forward angle on them all as sort of a mini skid plate and know I have banged mine on all of my cars, more then once, not thinking and baja down nasty side streets with lots of whoops. The kind where if ya don't nail it to lift the front end, your gonna crush your pan or you better lock em up now and do 2mph.
Im gonna be re-doing / adding in all the fancy stiffer frame stuff and a part cage for like racing [ I just want a full solid frame, not a car held together in the middle with the floor pans.] and that would help finish off the look over a full tube front frame clip. And drop some LBs.

Hopeful about the tubular k-members? You can buy them right now for the V8 cars, the 3.8 and the LSx's. They've been available for a little while now. I honestly think once they get the k-member and realize the small change needed they will probably produce one that has both mounts, would be more cost effective.

Leaving room and the right angles for a BOP and other engines would be somewhat of a hassle I think for them. I would love to see an aluminum headed 455 in a 3rd gen bird though lol

Either they stepped on it an the thing twisted up like a pretzel or they broke the time barrier but you never hear from them again. [got pics of one somewhere]
As for myself the 350 on my wagon could end up in the Bird at any time.
As I want to get a 455 for it. A tank motor for a tank of a car works out better. Id be afriad of a 455 in a 3rd gen. Tin can syndrom would get me.

lol. I've always wanted to build a pontiac OHC sprint engine for a 3rd gen bird. Stroke it, port the head, custom camshaft and EFI/DIS with a ton of boost!

yup if they do it ill dust off the credit card, dont want to wait like 6 months for my friend to have some free time to mod a v8 k-member.
Re: Interest in V6 (2.8/3.1/3.4) Tubular K-Member?
The stock k-members are identical for the v6 and v8. Just did a swap and all it took was some v8 motor mounts from Discount Auto.

Yes but the mounts are in a different spot on the k-member correct? The Spohn V8 ones don't have the "adjustment". The V6 mounts are further back if I recall, all the holes are there just different placement

Re: Interest in V6 (2.8/3.1/3.4) Tubular K-Member?
Ya that's what I originally thought when they asked me. They wanted the K-member with motor stands/mounts. I'm thinking they want to make it "perfect". I think it could easily be done by just extending the current "pads"

post some pics of yours, folks have said that they were 100% thrilled with the current V8 design. Still rubs on some parts where tubing was notched allot.

Yes, it's hanging out with the Japanese carbon fiber heat extractor hood and the all wheel drive conversion.

Just use the V8 one with the SBC pads, make some offset plates to get the correct mounting locations for the V6.
Spohn could probably make these very easily. Hell, i'd do it if my garage wasn't shut down for the winter.
FWIW, i've had the SBC one in my car for almost a year now with the 3.5. I haven't driven it but it seems to work fine.
