odd idle issue
I have a 1985 2.8, and if it idles for a few minutes, it'll throw a check engine light and Idle rough., put it in gear and drive around the block, and it goes away almost immediately. I haven't had a chance to run the codes yet, any Ideas of what to look into?
Thanks-
Eric J.

Re: odd idle issue
First you might want to find out what code its throwing but if I had to guess I would say your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)....
Let us know what code it gives you....

could be a stuck IAC....running it lean, making a miss. Check the codes before anything.

Re: odd idle issue
code 13 and 44;
13, oxygen sensor circuit.
44, lean exhaust.
I know the car has an exhaust leak, so that's part of the problem. now just to get an o2 sensor and new manifold gaskets, or headers and be done with it!.

Re: odd idle issue
yes the exhaust leak could be a problem.....change that and the sensor....also keep in back of mind that if it does it again it could be a air leak.....like intake gaskets.

Re: odd idle issue
I'd replace the sensor first... Seeing as how the code 13 means it's missing, it's no wonder why the engine is throwing the code 44, which also means constant low voltage coming from the O2S (<200mV is less than 300mV, is it not?).
Where exactly is the exhaust leak? If it's before the O2S, then fix it. If it's after the cat (or just after the O2S in general), don't worry about it until you get the O2S straightened out.
