3.8

has anyone ever done a swap with a 3.8 liter out of a 4th gen or even out of a supercharged gtp or other fwd cars? is that even possible? i think that would be better than a 3.4l.

Re: 3.8

You can't really swap a FWD engine into a RWD configuration, you could get a 3.4L and supercharge that though, you know, out of an F-body car and not something like a W-body, haha.

Well, you can, but it requires some serious fabrication skills because you have to make your own engine mounts (for the 3800 Supercharged FWD, or just a 3800 FWD). For a manual trans, you need the proper bellhousing with the clutch on the passenger's side. Custom exhaust, custom computer control system and wiring harness, and front springs will be necessary. There was a guy on here who went from a 2.8 to a 3.4 and then to a 3800 out of a late model F-body, but he put a lot of work into it.

I know that the swap is with a gas-saving V6, but for all that's involved, you're better off (and will be easier) to drop in a V8 if you're looking for that kind of power.

Re: 3.8

3.4 bolts up just like our 2.8/3.1. A 3.8 is 90* and requires all kinds of work.

Re: 3.8

The 3.8 liter engine is a 90 degree V6 and has the same bell-housing bolt pattern as the V8 engines and other V8 based engines like the 4.3liter V6. The bell-housing bolt pattern for the 2.8/3.1/3.4 is different and smaller, so the engine won't bolt to the transmission.

A 3.8 liter engine out of a 1996+ F body could be swapped in, but it would be just as expensive and just as much work as swapping in an LT1 or L98 engine. Just like those swaps, the transmission and the suspension would need to be addressed, along with all the accessories, radiator, exhaust, wiring harness, computer, etc...
