That part goes between the fuel block (the part that the pressure tap is on and the fuel lines connect to) and the fuel rail. Just put it back in. I've reused ones in worse shape, and it shouldn't have been removed in the first place. The 2.8 used 2 different fuel injectors depending on the year. Get a set for a 3.1 and put them in, the 88-89 2.8 used the same injectors.

Dealership is your best bet. That part of the fuel rail NEVER needs to come apart. Removing screws just because they're there is asking for trouble. The fine for stupidity in this case is what's probably going to be an expensive replacement part.

The fuel block alone is $180... I know that because I stripped the return fitting out on my 2.8's rail and wanted to replace it. Don't know about that thing. IIRC, the entire rail is around $400. He may be able to get by cutting the centers out of the gasket things and getting some viton o-rings to put in there, but playing games with flammable gas isn't something I'd like to do. :edit: And yes, I know that contradicts what I said before in that I've reused the thing with no problems.

Re: Injector base ? What part is this ?

I think (emphasis on the think) that I might have a 2.8 fuel rail laying around. It'd be a good used fuel rail that I'm pretty sure has never been apart. If you want to settle for used, let me know and I'll see if I can lay my hands on it.

Re: Injector base ? What part is this ?

I have a complete MPFI fuel injection setup for the 2.8 V6. the injectors are bad, but I'll be happy to sell you the fuel rail for a reasonable price if you still need one. I am not sure what it will cost to ship to you, though.

I didn't buy a new one. I had the 2.8 fuel rail from my factory engine and the 3.1 fuel rail from the replacement. I took the fuel block and return line from the 3.1 rail and put it on the 2.8 when I swapped the old rail in for the cold start injection. Unfortunately, I later got the factory return line in the fuel block sealed up enough to work and left it alone until I got rid of the 2.8 rail altogether. Funny thing is that I just got rid of 3 rails in October... Sent them to the recycler.

Re: Injector base ? What part is this ?

Wow why was the fuel block taken off in the first place? All you have to do is remove the fuel lines at the nuts with a line wrench and take off the whole shooting match injectors and all. There are tons of these in the local U-pull yard near me. If theres one near you, you can probably pick up a whole fuel rail for like $10. They want $5 for them at this one.

Re: Injector base ? What part is this ?

The hot tip of the decade is to just unbolt the fuel line anchors and move the fuel lines and rail out of the way. That way you don't risk cross threading the fuel lines into the fuel rail.

Re: Injector base ? What part is this ?

Ya you can do that. You can tell by feel if its threaded in properly. If its tight going in STOP! and back it out again. I took my rail off like 4 times already and had no problems threading the lines back in. The only thing youll make by rushing the job is scrap. It works in machine shops and working on cars. Slow down, take things easy and you will be fine.
