PCV Hose Connection
PCV Hose Connection
I am brand new to the Camaro world. I just got an 85 Sport Coupe with a V6. It was a gift from my family.
I am doing some basic things to it, but I want to figure out how to stop the oil spray on my engine. Sorry about the big photos...

The PCV valve is not connected to anything. I have the sticker and a book, but am unable to connect this valve. I must be missing something.
If anyone has pics or ideas, I'd be grateful.

PS- Smaller pics of my car are coming soon...

Re: PCV Hose Connection
should be a plastic pipe like fitting comming off the lower intake manifold to connect the pvc. part of it goes to the idle air control. should be comming off near the distributor. i forget what the name of the hose is called. i had to replace it one time. got it from a stealership.

Anyways, OP, you need to make this out of 1/2" PVC elbow and T and heater hose, since yours is GONE:

Re: PCV Hose Connection
was 05 when i got it. the dealer used some kind of other type of vendor that had oem gm parts that where sitting in wharehouse.
Re: PCV Hose Connection
Thanks for the input and photo. I can build that...
I can't seem to find too many V6 cars to get parts. Must be pretty rare...LOL (I AM kidding...)
Anyway, thanks again. Problem solved.

Re: PCV Hose Connection
In order to use that, you will need to hook the big hose coming from the charcoal canister to the tee in the back of the engine, where the brake booster connects, but on the small side.

Re: PCV Hose Connection
An Alternative solution here that I'm surprised no one mentioned, is that you can simply put a breather valve on it, believe me, that crap shouldn't be going through the intake manifold anyway. Putting a breather valve on it, won't pass emissions, but neither will it being disconnected like that :P If nothing else, do it as a temp fix, the things are cheap, and it will keep that oil from spraying all over while still allowing the crankcase to vent pressure. I'ts basically just a mini filter, to keep the oil from getting out, while still allowing air pressure to escape.

Re: PCV Hose Connection
Oh, also forgot to mention, that if the hose that thing is normally connected to isn't sealed off, you're going to have some vacuum issues, if it will even start or run.
Re: PCV Hose Connection
Yeah, a previous owner wrapped tubes and hose in electrical tape. As you can gues, it is falling apart and causing a leak. The engine is starting to run poorly now.
I want to make this a more reliable car to drive in summer and take occasional trips...
anyway, thanks for the info.

Re: PCV Hose Connection
This is NOT an effor to to bump this posting.
I have a new photo to show what is disconnected on my car. Runs like junk now.
I know I need to hook some hose, but which ones? My new photo shows arrows with different colors.
Can someone tell me where to hook up each hose? Refer to by color... Green-Throttle Body, Red- small hose and Purple to intake connection...
Thanks...

Re: PCV Hose Connection
NONE of that is even close to being right... The idle air pipe isn't even connected to the vacuum source, for one, that small hose goes WHERE? for 2, and the third thing is that the PCV is connected to NOTHING at all.
Re: PCV Hose Connection
You are absolutely right about all that...
That is why I turned to you guys on this site. The photo depicts how my car is now. The arrows merely indicate what is on the other end of the fittings:
-RED Arrow is hose that is connected to the Vacuum Canister
-PURPLE Arrow indicates Intake Vacuum Fitting
-GREEN Arrow points to hose connected to fitting near the top of the Throttle Body
My question is... How do I connect them? The PCV Valve is unhooked too.
I received an idea of how to build the hose connections, but where do they go?
Thanks to everyone for their contribution. This is my last problem to fix...until the next... LOL

The part I posted connects the GREEN arrow and the PCV valve to the PURPLE fitting ONLY. The line running to the charcoal canister has to be run to the small fitting opposite the brake booster hose with a tee.
Re: PCV Hose Connection
Now that is what I'm talking about!!! I finally get it...
My mechanical experience has been with the brand that has 318's, 440's and hemi's. Not much vacuum stuff on those cars... I am new to the Bowtie.
Anyway, I understand now.
Line with red arrow connects to a tee in the line going from upper intake to firewall. (Controls gauge functions, I believe?)
Line with green arrow attaches to tee in line that connects PCV, Idle Air, and vacuum source indicated by purple arrow on my photo...
Very Rough Diagram showing connections : (Typed Lines are supposed to be pointing at words "Intake Vacuum" and "Charcoal Canister")
Idle Air<__________>PCV Valve

Intake Vacuum
Source
Firewall<__________>Back of Upper Intake

Charcoal Canister
Right?
Very cool and very easy.
Thanks, Mav

Re: PCV Hose Connection
I have a pic somewhere of how it looks installed, I think. I'll try to find it later. I can't set it up on my engine since I don't have the 2.8 plenum any more, so I can't run out and swap parts and snap a pic...
Re: PCV Hose Connection
I am not trying to resurrect this thread for my question. I just wanted to show you all how I took your advice and fixed my hoses...
Thanks for the info.

The car runs so much better with the hoses connected.
I also did the SEAFOAM treatment on my engine. Wow!! I got some smoke, but it stopped after a while. No more West Nile Virus around here...
Thanks,
