Air filter/ intake questions.
Is this the only way the stock 87 got air? holy crap.

Next, is replacing my MAF sensor a good call?
Finally, what is this? (where my finger is pointing) At first i thought it was a sensor, but now it looks like it just sucks air.

Re: Air filter/ intake questions.
If memory serves that goes to your PCV valve, which vents crankcase pressure(it vents back into the intake manifold where it is mixed with new air) buildup caused by blowby, which is combustion chamber gases that slip by the piston rings
Edit: if that hose goes to your valve cover that will verify that it is the PCV valve line
Also I've seen worse intakes than that, but I've seen better too, like my dual snorkel, best non ram air, stock intake setup ever, lol.

i dont remember that on my 2.8... i hope its not there/needed on a 3.1 cause I dont think I remember seeing it or compensating for it in my new intake tube..

It might have a valve cover breather instead, same function, minus the dumping oil into your intake manifold part

Re: Air filter/ intake questions.
the hose in the pics ur pointing at in the intake tube is a breather and is not hooked to the pcv valve, basically its for when u fo wide open and there is zero vacum it sucks air out of the valvecover by using the ait flowing past the tube to suck air out. on an old smallblock chevy or what not it would be the same as having a pcv valve in one valve cover and a breather in the other side

Re: Air filter/ intake questions.
Does having it or not having it affect performance at all? It would explain why I've noticed some race engines have two valve cover breathers, for the longest time I never even knew wth the things were, till I got into this sort of stuff big.

Re: Air filter/ intake questions.
that was one of my rain reasons asking what it was, didn't know if i had to keep it when i set up the new intake for it. I'm going with yes, not like it will be hard to do, just wondering.
I guess everyone thinks replacing the MAF is also a good call?
