Whats your mileage?
What is the typical mileage for a LH0 V6 out of a 91 Firebird before it kicks the bucket?
I know this is really subjective on how well it was maintained and driven, but I'm currently sporting well over 210,000 miles and still going strong.
How many miles have you guys thrown on your V6's?

Re: Whats your mileage?
The engine platform in general is pretty indestructible, other than gaskets, as long as you have the large journal crank(post '85) they can probably go to 400k, personally, I would do a top end rebuild every 100k, and bottom end every 200k and you can probably hit the 400k mark.

Re: Whats your mileage?
Provided you take care of it religiously, the engine could go WAY longer than 200K before a rebuild... Guy in my class had a 350 out of an older truck (late 70's) with 350K (not kidding, either) that looked pretty much brand new inside, no sludge buildup or anything. The truck was owned by a company that kept it clean inside and out and maintained the engine like no tomorrow. Not a 60*, I know, but still, this is a good example of what happens when you keep up with maintenance like GM specifies in the owner's/repair manuals.
Just watch out for the intake gaskets and anything that may cause the fuel mixture to go batty (MAP, CTS, O2S, IAT, exhaust leaks), keep up with the oil changes, don't let any major leaks go on for too long, and keep up with the tuneup parts.
The odometer just rolled over 247K last week (about time... only been waiting a year and a half!), along with the rearend. Don't know the mileage on the engine and I think the trans is nearing 200K... Original engine was VERY poorly maintained (can anyone say sludge buildup in the lifter valley?) with a broken air dam that led to overheating for a trip more than 5 miles/minutes, and blew with 195,239.7 on the clock, and the original auto trans was yanked at 213,831 miles due to a hydraulic error in the converter clutch.

Re: Whats your mileage?
im only at 76k, if i can get 200k out of it that would be awesome. However, i think the urge to mod will overwhelm it before then and the 3.1 will go bye-bye
Re: Whats your mileage?
The 84 2.8 I'm about to buy is, I believe, at 130,000 miles... or 230k, or 330k... the odometer only goes to 99,999 miles then resets itself. That was a great idea GM
. I'm going to pretend it's at 130k miles

Re: Whats your mileage?
GM wasn't the only ones that had 5 digit odometers... Chrysler cars had them as well up to about 1995 or so. I guess they figured that most cars back then weren't going to see the odo rollover (especially something like an F-body).

Ford too. I guess it pretty much goes for any old car.
My 68 Mustang also has the 5 digit odometer. It doesn't matter much because the previous owner swapped the engine. I just kind of wish I had a clue to how many miles was thrown on the body.

i had a dodge with a 318 that had 379,000 and ran amazing and traded it for the camaro that i have now. as far as i know the guy still has it on the road as a daily driver the only maintance i ever did on the engine it self was oil,oil filter and air filter never did anything else and never had a problem. sometimes you just get lucky lol

Re: Whats your mileage?
I'm actually kind of disappointed when I think my engine hasnt bit the dust yet. Until it dies, I really have no incentive/priority to throw a bigger engine in it.

Re: Whats your mileage?
I bought my 1989 RS V6 (120K miles) I drove it about 122k and spun a rod bearing. I bought another motor from a junk yard for $300 and put that in there. The motor had 61k and I think now its got about 65k.

Re: Whats your mileage?
1987 Pontiac Firebird found it after I lost my 1997 camaro to the past winter storm that we had.
Anyways, bought it from a private seller who had it garage kept for the past 10 years.
Unbelievably perfect condition, the best part is, it has only 45k millage on it.
