Low Oil Pressure
Hi TGO'ers
Yep, it may be curtains for the 2.8.......
From Cold start, pressure is just above the red. However after its warmed up the needle has dropped to vitually zero.
After reading a few articles on here, I decided to try and pull off the oil pan and replace the oil pump. This is where I am now stuck with the pan half hanging off
I got the engine jacked up as far as it will go, however I still cannot wiggle out the friggin pan.
This is a manual T5 car, so it cannot get past the bell housing (it's nearly there, but not quite enough).
I was wondering if I unbolt the tranny mount, and jack up there also, if that is going to give me enoug room - or do I HAVE to remove the transmission to get the pan out ? (dont really want to remove tranny and have the engine only balancing on the front pulley!!!)
ALSO,
Someone said to me that low pressure means the bearings are worn too?. Is that right, am I wasting my time by replacing just the pump and should really maybe hire an engine hoist and pull the engine right out to do a bottom end rebuild ?).
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Rhys

Re: Low Oil Pressure
You'll want to pull the trans to get the pan out without a hoist. It could just be that your gauge is old and inaccurate. I'd say that if the engine isn't clacking along when you're sitting waiting for a light to change, don't worry about it until you can do a rebuild on the bottom end.

Re: Low Oil Pressure
Oil pump could be the problem. It could also be bearings as well its hard to say. until you eliminate one thing at a time to find out. But yea you will need to remove the tranny for a manual transmission its pretty simple and while your there might as well change the clutch so you won't need to do that for a while. Bearing ect... Because never know when it would just go out. If its been in there for a while.
