2.8 to 2.8
2.8 to 2.8
Ok, once again, I have a question and have changed my mind. I am not going to put the 305 in place of my million pieced 2.8. Instead I found a guy that will sell me a 2.8 out of a s10 blazer (1986) for 200 bucks. Thats about all i can afford so i guess i need to jump on it. heres the thing, his is a throttle body where mine is a multiport. What are the pros and cons of just keeping his throttle body as opposed to changing the intakes over? Keep in mind, i have limited help, tools, and money. Is the computer gonna have a conflict if i try to keep the throttle body instead of changing the intakes over? Thanks,
oh and if it helps, i would really like to keep the throttle body if possible. so basically id like to know how to go about it.

First, the TB is technically illegal. Because GM didn't offer the car that way. But if you want to use it, you'll need the S-Blazer computer and wiring harness.
Better to put the f-car cam, heads and EFI on the other bottom-end assembly. The F-car heads have bigger valves and better flow, and the F-car EFI builds more much-needed midrange torque.

"f-car" or "f-body" is the designation for the Camaro/Firebird chassis line.
When I first got my '82, it had a 2.8 with cracked block. In looking around for a replacement, I was told the f-body and S-10 engines had the oil filter in different places, and in order to use the S-10 engine you needed to use a filter relocation kit. Never personally verified that, but that's what I was told.

If anything, the S10 has a different oil filter adaptor that can be removed and the F-body one installed.
Second, swapping the intakes between the engines takes 3 sockets, 10mm, 13mm, and possibly a 12pt 10mm socket for some of the bolts. And $25 for an intake gasket set that comes with all of the gaskets needed for the swap. To use the S10 hardware, you would need to get the computer and harness and then have to spend the time and money cutting and splicing wires between the harnesses. Just get everything except the intake (and above) and the oil pan from the S10, put your F-body stuff on the long block, put the engine in, and go.

Thank you, Maverick. That's why I moved this from the Engine Swap forum to here.
Re: 2.8 to 2.8
