AC delco rapidfires $15..

I know its not the for sale forum, but there's hardly any exposure there and I'm not likely to sell them on craigslist.
I have a set of essentially new AC delco rapidfires for my 2.8, the engine has run a total of less than 15m, turned out my block is cracked so I'm swapping to a 3.4 and it uses different plugs -_-
So $15 plus shipping, ($5 at most I think)

Edit: they're $30 new from advance, case anyone is wondering.

Re: AC delco rapidfires $15..

I am swapping the heads, but someone said I couldn't use those plugs, think it was the guy that rewrote the 3.4 swap article, but I did just call advanced and they said it pulls diff part #s for plugs on each engine, so idk, I'm guessing they have a different reach, considering the biggest difference is rotating assembly.
And while you're around, do you know if the oil pan on that 3.4 will fit or will I have issues with it? Cause its in FAR better shape than the 2.8 one with dents, no paint and rust spots.
He also said the cams are slightly different, but I'm guessing if anything its just a slightly different lift duration or LSA.
Also wondering if the serpentine belt system is any better and worth keeping on the 3.4 and if the FPR is higher psi, and or if I can just use that fuel rail, only thing I can see why I couldn't is I'm wondering if it will interefere with the intake manifold since the line routing is different.

Re: AC delco rapidfires $15..

pilsbury has a 3.4 pan on his motor that i just built the turbo setup on and it fits but the y pipe u have may actually need to be modified to clear the pan m not sure , the pan is a lil deeper were the ypipe goes under it

and yes u can use the plugs id just turn the mtor over by hand witht he plugs in it to be sure

Re: AC delco rapidfires $15..

Only difference between the stock cams is the use of the reluctor wheel on the 3.4 cam for the DIS cam sensor... Everything else is the same (according to GM). 3.4 oil pan may work. If not, Summit has replacement pans (but I got mine from eBay). Check Pillsbry's 3.4 swap threads to see how he did the fuel lines. However, I'd just use the upper plenum and stuff from the 2.8 to make everything easier (and to avoid having to buy new connectors for everything). Unless you plan on swapping to DIS or doing some serious cutting on the upper plenum like he did to clear the dizzy.

Re: AC delco rapidfires $15..

3.4 pan is usable, use the 2.8/3.1 plenum it's way easier and your not really gaining anything by changing it. I just did it because no one else had. The plugs I'm pretty sure are the same. Maybe a diffrent heat range is why they are diffrent part number

Re: AC delco rapidfires $15..

I am going to use my intake setup, its better than the stock 3.4, they're great for torque but like an asthmatic in boot camp at anything over 5k, not to mention mine are ported, anyone know if the FPRs are different psi or not, and also wondering where I can find ridiculously high #/hr injectors, namely just trying to find if there are 65#s out there that will fit. My ultimate goal is to have a turbocharged hybrid pumping out 650 hp.

Also along the lines of hybrid swap, can our ECMs run the DIS setups on these engines or would I need some kind of piggyback system, different sensors, an ecm tune or diff ecm? Even future hybrid swap aside dizzies are a PITA and I would rather have DIS if it can be setup without too much trouble or more importantly atm money.

Re: AC delco rapidfires $15..

DIS has all the same wires (in different connectors). With your existing harness, you also have the benefit of being able to check the base timing. Just need a different ECM chip for the proper timing scale. Nab one from a J-body or N-body, as those are plentiful in the junkyards (W-bodies use a 727 with a MEMCAL, which won't work in your 302). The ECM will be behind the glove box. But, you will still need the 7x sensor and trigger wheel for the front of the engine (read the thread by bl85c), and you will need the wiring coming off of the ignition module running to the CKP. FPR still has the same base fuel pressure. Get or make an AFPR if you want higher pressure. Keep in mind that you could pick up the bigger injectors now, but you won't be able to use them until the turbo is on and tuned.

Re: AC delco rapidfires $15..

You might not be able to use the 3.4 pan with the front cover you have since it's an '85. The lip between the pan & cover is angled, not flat like the later covers. Here's the thread on DIS. Check out the ecm swap as well, you won't be able to do this with your stock ecm.

If he's dropping in an entire 3.4, it doesn't matter how the timing cover fits to the oil pan on his 2.8... He was probably asking if he had to keep the existing pan or if he could get away with a 3.4 pan.

PSST.... FWD J and N bodies used the 302...
