This is going to sound dumb....but can a reverse flow water pump be used with the pulley running it the other way, I need to drive my car a bit and don't yet have a new PS pulley which I need in order to use the serpentine setup, want to put my old v belt setup on it temporarily but not sure if the water pump will work in both directions

u can use ur vbelt setup but u would have to put ur 2.8 wp on the 3.4
Sadly that isn't an option...I have the 3.4 TC and oil pan on it, which means I can't use the 2.8 TC or WP..guess I'll just have to wait for the pulley =/

It must be, i have a 2.8 timing cover and i ordered a lower rad hose for a 3.4, the 2.8 cover's outlet is larger than the 3.4 hose. Originally Posted by project89

LOL, yep.
The early "foward" pumps spin clockwise, the later "reverse" pump spin Counter-clockwise.

well even if the outlet is a diff size the waterpump mounting bolts should be the same i would assume id have to cross refrence part numbers for a 2.8/3.1 and a 3.4 wpOriginally Posted by Purple82TA

Pumps aren't interchangeable, nor is the timing cover, because it joins the oil pan differently, on the 2.8 the oil pan jutted out front a little bit and down at an angle, so the bottom of the timing cover actually covers a little bit of the exposed pan, and meets it at an angle, on the 3.4 the oil pan front isn't angled, its level, so to swap covers I would have to swap pans, which isn't even close to being worth it for what I wanted to accomplish...
Edit, and yes the lower radiator hose is smaller, not sure about the upper since I just used my LIM and goose neck, I had to improvise on the lower radiator hose, I cut a piece off of what was left of the 3.4 one(he cut everything around the engine to remove it) and put some rtv on it just for good measure, pushed it into my 2.8 hose as far as I could get it, and trimmed off the excess with an exacto knife. Probably not the proper way to do it, but I have no doubts about it working and holding up.
