Throttle body coolant by-pass?
Throttle body coolant by-pass?
Hope everyone had a great turkey day. My 89 FB 2.8 is leaking coolant from that valve/pipe that screws in just below the water outlet. Only leaks when heater is on. In a previous thread someone called it a LIM pipe I think. Well, the part can't be found. Went to Dorman site and couldn't find a oem replacement. I figure I can by-pass it but wondering if anyone has done it and what did you do specifically? Run a hose from the heater control valve to? Or just cap off the heater control valve where the hose runs to that LIM pipe/valve? I live in SoCal so I don't need to worry about TB freezing. Thanks.

You don't need either the pipe or the coolant lines running to the TB. I've had my TB blocked off for a couple years with no ill effects (even took the coolant adaptor right off of the TB). You can get a nipple that a hose will attach to that screws right into the LIM coolant port where the pipe was and run a hose to the heater control valve. However, if you want to keep the pipe, there is a Dorman part that replaces the factory pipe attachment (not the pipe, the part the pipe clips into). It looks like a 2" long nut with a white plastic clip in the pipe end with threads for screwing into the LIM in the other. I can't think of what it's called right now, but I've had to replace it twice due to broken clips. You will need 3 o-rings for the pipe as well if you use this, 2 small ones that fit tight to the pipe and one more that is the next size up for sealing to the adaptor.

Thanks Maverick - I think I'll find the nipple end and just run a hose from the heater control valve to that nipple. I assume you just capped off the inlet tubes on the throttle body.

There's no need to cap anything off other than the tubes running out of the coolant pipe in the LIM. The TB coolant port runs from one side to the other, and is removable (which is why I took mine off... Getting rid of excess crap even if it doesn't save much in the way of nose weight reduces engine bay clutter).
:edit: And I forgot to mention the heater pipe adaptor has 2 seals inside of it. Just toss these and get the o-rings as they aren't needed and even hamper installation of the heater pipe.
