car stopped running after a rebuild...

Car was running great for like 2-3 weeks, then I was driving home and the ses light came on, but it had before with no discernible issues, and never stayed on, but I was on the way to a gas station cause I was super low, and it stalled out, at first I figured it was just down to fumes, and that thats why it stalled out and ran really rough the rest of the way, but after putting gas in it it still ran rough as hell and stalled out, now it won't even start unless I give it gas, even though its firing, and it runs extremely rough when it does start with me giving gas, and still stalls out right after, I have no idea what could possibly be wrong with it since I just rebuilt the whole top half of the engine, new spark plugs, new wires, new ignition coil, new cap and rotor, new fuel filter, new oil, new air filters, new thermostat, new coolant hoses, even rebuilt the heads with new stem seals, the car was running great and now its not even running, and I have no idea wth could possibly be wrong with it.......

you burnt out the fuel pump running low on gas, its the gas that keeps the fuel pump cool. Should never run lower then a 1/4tank if you want long life out of them.

I generally don't, but atm, times are rough, I'm past broke atm...How confident are you that thats what it is? Cause if I'm honest its not the first time I ran it really low, I did actually think of the possibility but decided it seemed unlikely, but I guess I'll have to get some starter fluid and see what that does for it.

I see it happen all the time. Every other no start I get is a fuel pump someone ran low.

Ack, please, no, why does everyone grab starter fluid instead of a fuel pressure gauge, it's not a chainsaw or dirtbike, it's a MPFI engine!

If the starting fluid puddles in the dry plenum, and the engine backfires, the plenum will blow apart- and there goes the top-end rebuild you just did so carefully. Please get a fuel pressure gauge

Re: car stopped running after a rebuild...

you misread the part about being beyond broke =/ pressure gauges aren't cheap, and if you know what you're doing you won't blow apart the intake, also I have extras anyways...but honestly I'm just going to wait for christmas, and if I get some money(highly likely) I am just going to buy a new fuel pump and drop that in, because even if its not the fuel pump, I still need a higher capacity one for when I eventually boost the 6 if it isn't toast, or if it is toast, I'm not spending the time and money on putting another 6 in, if I have to put another engine in it will be an ls1....but hopefully its just the pump, but before I even go there I will try replacing the fuel filter since thats a lot cheaper and easier.
