What exactly does the noise sound like is it a squeal like a loose belt or more like a whine?

sounds like a vaccum leak.. try to find the general area it is coming from by either getting a automotive stethoscope or use a peice of old heater hose about 2 feet in length, put one end up to your ear and move the other end around trying to find it.. there are other ways to find, but ill explain later, since were not even 100% sure thats the problem...

do you have a home made k&n air filter setup? when do you hear this noise? at idle, while driving, at high rpms, etc..

New facts,
when the coolant becomes hot, the noise is louder, short before the thermostat opens, sounds like over pressure. Couldn't locate yet where it comes from.
any new ideas?

check your water pump.. does the car over heat at all? any coolant leakage? hopefully you got an electric fan so this is easier, if so, take the belt off the pump, and firmly grasp the water pump pulley, try to wiggle it around and pull it in and out.. there should be no play...
