Stock exhaust or aftermarket?

I'm going to need a new muffler soon and I've heard that their kind of expensive, I have the factory single in and dual out muffler on my 2.8L V6. Would it be about the same price to get an aftermarket muffler or exhaust system as a new stock one?

A Dynomax Super Turbo muffler is $20. The full cat-back system (with all new & larger & mandrel-bent pipes) is $160 from Summit Racing, and it's the one I use. Chances are any muffler shop you go to will not be able to do mandrel bends, formed by packing the pipe with sand, and using a special bending machine- it's too expensive.

i just had to replace exhaust pipe from cat back to and including muffler and tailpipes. new hangers and brackets were in order as well. it cost me about 200 bucks at midas with the lifetime warranty etc. i will purchase a cat back system later that i can switch back and forth for that damned inspection sticker

I just had a Dynamax cat-back installed and WWHAT a difference it made. Throttle response is much better now (I also had an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold which caused the o2 sensor to not work right). The sound is awesome at idle but still sounds v-6ish at higher rpms. I'm very pleased with the exhaust system now.

KNT, there should be no problems passing emissions with the Dynomax system.
