plse help
i have a problem w/my engine. a few weeks ago, somehow, i got a large hole in my radiator and before i knew it was there my temperature gauge was pegged at 260. now i have a knocking in my engine. my engine is only 700 miles old, and had synthetic Mobile 1 and ZMAX put in it about 100 miles before my little problem. the knocking is loud when the engine is cold, then seems to quiet down, but is always there. i have asked a few people, my uncle who has a 680 hp LT-1 and did all the work himself and helped me put in my new 2.8 told me by what i said it sounded like a wrist pin, my father who has been workin on cars for about 35 yrs. says maybe a push rod. i go w/my father b/c the knocking seems to be comming from a head, but i also kinda believe my uncle b/c of how reliable he is. i was just owndering if anyone could help, and maybe give a few opinions

You might want to ask this in General Engine... hell, I'm still not sure when someone says "I threw a rod" if they're talking connecting rod or pushrod!

ask your uncle and father if they think it could be one of the heads, or lifters. Those can cause a pinging sound when the go bad.

sorry to hear about it. if you don't have horrible emession requirements, drop in a 3.4L lot of power to throw around.

i can't put the 3.4, the company that built my engine diagnosed the problem as bad machining, it wasn't a wrist pin, in fact u couldn't even tell it had been overheated, i had shreded bearings, they said it was their fault, so guess, what i get my engine back, bored .060 over, i am happy, maybe i will put in a 3.4 crank

the engine company is called Abana engines, they do local and shipped engines, a new 2.8 long block was $750, all forged parts and bored .030 over, it was worth it. i am gonna keep this engine for like probably another 6 months, then money permitted do a LT-1 swap w/a t-56, i have all the parts including the engine and tranny. my uncle had a spare of both off his 95' Z28, so i will drop it in, take his extra ATI d-1 blower strap that on, have smile from ear to ear as i show ricers the only reason u should have 3" pipes out the back of ur car. the engine is good for 689 rear wheel horse power. god i love my uncle, all is free of charge i just pay $250 for shipping.

sounds good, but now i'm jelous as hell. heck, i love that price too, i got a new engine from a company here in St. Louis for 1900 installed, and it's bored .040 over, but he said that the going rate on a 2.8L long block was about 1300 right now. I wanna move to Florida.

not down here, there is so much engine competition that u can get a 2.8 cast long block for about $650, hell my engine was only gonna cost my $1500 installed, but i prefer to do it myself and save $750, that money can go to better things, i.e.- true duals, or retrofitting a little 4 psi. super. i donno yet.....the only thing is that there is no winter so i always have to drive my car, so its pretty much weekend project only.
