Changing O2 sensor

First off, stupid question, where exactly is the O2 sensor. I've been popping Code 13s like crazy this past week and have gotten them intermittently for the last 4 months. The SES light is really getting annoying so I think I'm gonna break down and change it out. How much do these things cost and how hard of a job is it change it out? Any help as always is appreciated!

They're really easy to remove, at least mine was. Mine's located on the exhaust pipe right underneath the passenger side floor pan, towards the front.

Should be able to pick one up at the local parts store for $15-20, and be sure to get the special tool to remove/install the sensor. It's basically a socket with a slot cut down the side to accomodate the sensor's wire(s).

Doesn't sound too bad. I'll have to tackle it either this or next Saturday.

I just changed mine just a few hours ago.It cost me 18.50 for a bosch 02 sensor.Trust me,you'll have to put some *** behind the wrench to get the old one off.My old one was about 2 years old.It had almost bonded with the exhaust . When your under the car you can't miss it.It's above the cat about a foot or two.

The Bosch oxy sensor "should be" #12014.. same as the v8 guys use.

I've had some bad luck with that special socket... because of the slit in the side, it's not as strong as a real socket. One sensor I changed didn't want to budge.. I was turning it so hard, that the socket actually widened up, slipped on the sensor, and got stuck there.

I tackle it two ways: I can use a large open-ended adjustable wrench, if the sensor's loose enough. If not, I cut the wire off, and put a "real" socket over it.

Do this when the exhaust is still pretty hot... as in, not enough to give you a 3st degree burn, but hot enough to give you a 1st degree. Know what I mean? A hot exhaust will help the sensor turn easily; too hot,and you can strip the y-pipe fitting out. (A welder can replace it.)

Also don't crossthread the oxy sensor.. I did that my first time changing it.

Oh- damn- I hit submit just as I thought of something. Check the oxy sensor wire!! You can get a code 13 if the oxy sensor wire melts on the exhaust- that grounds it out, and the computer thinks it's running too lean. I've torched mine a few times; now it's tied up and out of the way of the heat.

Did anyone ever use a Borg Warner O2 sensor?
I just happen to have on the side and I'm wondering if I should use that or get a Bosh sensor?
