Re: 3.8 ?
You can either go through the hybrid swap or basically swap in a V8 just to keep a V6. You'd need a trans, custom ECM tune, custom or modified wire harness, custom mounts, etc... At a much higher cost because you're swapping in a Buick engine. Not to mention you have to do some sheet metal work just to get the thing to fit in the car. And, still, replace the cylinder heads (like was done with the TTA).
For the same price, or even less, beef up your existing trans, swap in the hybrid heads, put on a turbo (or even 2), tune your own ECM... With no sheet metal work required. Either way, you still require FWD heads (TTA used FWD heads on the RWD block to fit in the car).
Save your money... You already swapped to a 3.4. Don't just toss it aside. If you were going to do that, I would have waited and gone from a 3.1 straight to the 3.8...

Re: 3.8 ?
dont build "for now" build for later or your just going to waste a lot of time and money...thats why it took me so long to build my 3.4 i built it to handle everything i planned to throw at it. make a choice and take your time and build it

Re: 3.8 ?
Unless you're a carb and tuning expert, which, by the questions you keep asking, you're not, you can't make decent reliable power with a carb, so EFI is the way to go. EFI generally delivers a nice even shot of power out of each cylinder, to balance the engine. Carbs are hard enough to balance out on a non-boosted application (which is why some older power house engines run 2 or more carbs). I hate to say it, but small-displacement 4 bangers can and do make decent power with turbos, but still retain halfway decent gas mileage (as compared to say a supercharged 572).
And we all know that the Ford V8 is weak... Hanging with Cobras and 5.0 Rustangs doesn't take a genius. If you're looking for power adders, one, be prepared to pay for it, and 2, go to the power adder board, as dave and project89 left and firstfirebird isn't on a lot any more.

Re: 3.8 ?
The early 2.8 had the small journals, 1985.5 and later had the large journals.

Re: 3.8 ?
EVERY 60* V6 block and crank produced after 1986 (for a full year number) has the large journal crank. Don't worry about the 2.8's as you have a completely different block altogether (2.8 block won't hold to the 3.4's bore size without problems).
