87 2.8 V6.... for free
87 2.8 V6.... for free
I have a girl who I went to High school with that is going to give me her 87 2.8L V6 Camaro. Its a hard top and has very bad paint. THough the interior is nice. I am thinking my first Pro Street Car. My question is... is it tru that the HArd tops are stiffer than the t-top modles or is the false?
The car has over 125,000 miles on it and she hates the thing. I just said when you are done with it drive it over to my house and leave the key and title in it.
She didn't think I was serious and said I will and I was like OK then she believed me ansd asked what I would do with it. Ha she has no clue what you can do with a Camaro.

Think about it for a sec.......Hmmmm, more metal = more strength. So YEA a coupe is more stable than a T-top. Oh and Im sending you a cookie via email for that free 2.8L ya got there!

Add a roll cage and it will be plenty stiff, not sure what your plan is but you said something about pro-street, if you are planning on changing out the engine to something huge, remember any car in the 10's needs a roll cage. Something to think about. Lata.

The coupe will definatly be more rigid. It will have less body flex when you drop the pedel to the floor.
The t-top model do have some bracing to make up for the"less steel".
But for pro street use I would go with the coupe.

there was an article in Hot Rod about a year maybe two years ago that went through the process of making a pro-street camaro, and they used a T-top camaro for the test car. They did have to use a roll cage to stiffin up the vehicle's stability. It was pretty sweet, and i could pull it out if you need it kyle. But i'd be thinking, it'd be easier to find a worn v8 firebird or T/A and then use that as the shell for your pro street, but hey, you'd have to install a roll cage and all anyway if you're gonna be in the 10's.
WEll Its free so how can I go wrong. Im just thinking that since I would have no reason to restore this car back to original condition why not go wild on it. What would be the difference between a V6 Frame and a V8, its not like im going to use the original motor or tranny or anything else ion the driveline for that matter.
I can see where the coupe would be stronger, and yes I know I will need a roll cage. I was just making the comment if more steel = more stiffness all the time then why are a lot of structures and frames not just solid steel shell. ANyways that requires a lot of thinking and calculations to place them correctly, and Im not going to bore you with that, just look at towers that carry power lines and bridges.
So you guys think I should go fo rit huh? Take the car and go wild?

Hey SlowCamaro88SC I tried to post his email on here, but someone deleted it. I put it up here with a few choice statements, but I think we should just let it die, for now

Kyle, you should have asked this on the Suspension/Chassis board. Not only is it dealing with a race car's chassis, but it has nothing to do with a V6. Why post it here?
Your other message was deleted because if you have a problem with someone, you take it to e-mail. This isn't the high school lunch table, where you try to show off, or prove that you're the "king of insults", or get people on your side. It's a V6 TECH AREA, and I haven't seen any tech come out of your mouth in weeks. I thought you would've gone away by now. Visit http://www.nethirdgen.org if you want to run your mouth about non-tech.
And the structural bracing added to a T-top car is minimal. As was said earlier, a hardtop car is much more stable. The T-top car would've absolutely twisted to pieces if GM didn't add their bracing. I'd tell you where they are is, but for kicks, I'll let you learn on your own.

I have had to delete a few replies to this post over the last few days so I think that it is better to go ahead and lock it.
