I am college student that drives a 3.1L V-6 92 firebird and I love my car. My car does not have all that much power but it looks good. Even though my car is a sports car and looks good I don't talk about my car every day and brag how fast it is because its not all that fast. Anyway there is this kid that goes to my school and constantly hangs out with me and my roommates. All he ever talks about is how fast his 4 banger saturn is and how he is always beating people in races. It isnt really anything special at all its just a 5speed 95 SL2 Saturn with 124hp. This kid doesnt know the first thing about cars he thinks his front wheel drive saturn can fishtail. Anyway I was just wondering wether or not my car could beat his car? I want this kid to quit talking about his car likes its a race car and kind of teach him a listen. Thanks.

 

Well, why not try it? Make sure your car is tuned up well. Try searching the older posts in this board any you will find *tons* of info on 'can I beat this guy' etc. You didn't mention if your car was stick or auto, that could very well make the difference between winning or losing.

And he drives a Saturn. Ugh. You don't even have to race him to know that you've got a better car!

Your car may look better but I'm sorry to say but those saturns are pretty quick. My mom owns a 97 SW2 wagon and it will outrun everything i've got including my f-body and also my 72 chevy pickup with a 454 big block.

 

With my tranny nearly leaving a trail of parts behind I still trashed my sister's 4 banger 5 speed Saturn on the open road, and that' my 2.8. Trust me, you can kill him with a 3.1, just do a good tune up, and make sure you have very little gas.

Just go do it. What does it matter if we say you can or not? lf talking about it would solve any question or problem, all the world's problems would have been solved a log time ago. But its actions, not words that solve these kind of questions.

My 2.8 V6 was able to keep up w/ a 79 T/A. Course, if l had asked it would have been "no way, man". My 2.8 has been outrun by an older F150. It would have been a "no problem" post.

I will add my "you should win" comment, but that wont affect the outcome.

It must be something with Saturn owners...

I knew this kid once, he had his mommy's Saturn. He's brag about this and that, and how it could take corners that mine couldn't, and how he had anti-lock brakes, and traction-control, and all this other fancy stuff. The kid drove like a freakin' moron- I'd have loved to see him try to drive an f-body, without all that fancy crap. He would've met a telephone pole pretty damn fast.

You should look at the kid and ask him why he can't find something else to talk about. His family sedan might be fast, but it's still a family sedan.

The race might not be good; I'm sure that econobox is a lightweight, and he's got a stick. Like AlexJH said, look for the Major Tuneup post, that will give you back some HP.

Thanks alot for all of the advice. I think I'll give my car a good tune up and race him and see how things go. By the way Reno what kind of saturn does your sister drive. I was just kind of curious. My car isnt all stock I have a K and N air filter and a jacobs electronic ignition system. Hopefully I'll beat him. Thanks again.

 

4-banger SL2? Aren't they 4-doors? I think that's what this kid I work with just got... it's a 2001 Saturn... Anyway, I raced him with my dad's Cougar (135K mi. on a 3.8L V6... doesn't help that the car weighs 3500lbs too... AND a 3speed AOD tranny... ugh...), and had I kicked his *** any worse, I probably would've felt bad and went back to pick it up for him...

Seriously though... it's been a while since I've driven my Camaro (since June last year), so I've kinda forgotten the feel of it ... but I'm pretty sure you'll win, especially if he can't drive.... after all, he drives a Saturn, how smart can he be?

Jsut lliek this kid at my school he sits there and thinks his ford is the **** when its not its some old school ford looks liek a cougar tho but i awalys say lets go race ill kick your *** when he talks **** about my car he will not race me at all lol thalks **** but cant back up his ****.

lol,this one kid at my school was braggin about how saturns are dent proof. well he elbow dropped his hood and sure enough,he had this big a$$ dent.it was so funny.guess ya had to be there to see the look on his face!
