Roll cages and harnesses

selling my drumset and will be getting about 1300...looking into a roll cage from www.climaxracing.com around the corner and also having 5 pt harnesses installed. Anyone know anything i should look at b4 doing this? Im also going to have a wonder bar and subframe connectors hopefully put in at the same time. If money is still there 1.6 rockers.

I am not flaming you at all so please do not take it that way but i am curious... WHY? I know the roll cage is for added protection and to my the frame more rigid = better traction and handling but again why? our V6's don't have the power to justify an upgrade like that. Also check you local laws... % point seat belts are VERY street illegal.... yeah go figure, they are 5 times the protection.. Anyways check it out first. I say spend the 1300.00 into a nice rebuild to get ya into the 170 to 180hp range. Again not a flame at all bro, but looking at it with hind sight from my old bird.

Yeah, added protection's always a good thing. If I ever put a nitrous system (by NOS) on my car, I might get one of the 5-point belts, just to make myself feel safer. I'd still leave the original belt in though! I'd try to make the 5-point harness so it could be hidden away- I'd hate to look like a wannabe ***** that lays their 5-point out for everyone to see!

I found that after I put the cage in mine I was getting around the course quicker. It wasn't just from the added stiffnes. I was not as afraid to push the car to the limits. Never underestimate what a differance feeling safe can have. I would never regret spending money on safety.

Is the bird running again or are you doing this for the Z?

Sorry to hear you're getting rid of your set. You and I must think alike. I was looking at roll cages and harnesses in my Jegs. The only differene is I look and you act. The're not all that expensive. I just wonder how much installation is. Are you getting a 4,8,10 or 12 point cage? For your harness, are you getting Y-type or individual type? Floor mount or roll bar mount? I'm just really curious since this may be something I'll do after I get the rust fixed and a repaint. Thanks.

Im going to do a 6 or 8 point...then y-type harnesses since less parts to weld on. All depends on what the shop charges to do it all for. Then roll bar mount. Im gonna get my car painted and also grab a new shift plate....this is all firebird

Cool. I flipped through my Jegs and didn't see a 6 point cage. hmmm. My personal choice would be the 8. I'd like to see some pics after you get it installed if you would please, just to see what it looks like.

Make sure you buy the right cage. The cages for Drag racing and road racing are different. For RR you need to have a bar going across the dash. I put a 10-point custom chrome moly roll cage in my mustang because the plan is to have it run mid 8's. I paid $2500 to have it installed (ouch) but I don't have to upgrade it ever until it goes faster than 8.50's. And the 5-point harness are cool.
