Got an '89 2.8 Camaro with an Automatic?

Great! Does it have the A.I.R. (smog) pump? Does it have a 3-way cat (with the hose to the AIR pump)? I'm just wondering what my friend has under the hood...

Great, thanks for the info! I'm glad I won't have to bother with that AIR emissions crap when we do the swap. Thanks again!

Carb engines have the smog pump (Blazers).
The FI cars do not.
Does not have the 3-way cat, either.

Sorry, both my truck and Firebird are automatic. Specifically, the truck is a federal version and the Firebird is a CA version engine. There are differences.
Have never seen a stick 2.8 set up, yet.
Glad I checked back to this post, thanks for the quick lesson.

Jason, when you say "that's my car", were you talking about my original msg (2.8 w/auto) or to Vortex89 (2.8 w/manual)?

And yeah, my '86 w/auto doesn't have an air pump. My '86 GM service manual shows that a 2.8 w/manual came with an air pump... odd, eh?

Not really.
The driver is controlling the amount of pollutants exiting the exhaust, by shifting at any RPM he chooses to.
The smog pump, in that instance, aids the exhaust to burn better, by injecting air into the exhaust, to dilute/mix with the exhaust emissions.
Automatics seems to be controlled by (these days) computers, driver cannot adjust shift points, FROM THE FACTORY.
Drivers, now a days, adjust shift points by installing a shift kit.
That's why many automatic cars do not have asmog pump & air tubes. Yet, you'll see alot of smog pumps, automatics, on carb/engine set ups.
Cars with FI, tend to run so clean, that's why I gave my (assumed) respone.
