I think i wasted some money trying to stop a vacuum leak

OK i went to Advance, bought some "hardlines." Moved the air filter housign and changed the air filter.. some lines snapped, one or two were msising. they SEEM to be in there (one snapped and i couldnt get it out of its rubber piece,) and there MAY be a minor improvement in the "whistle" noise consistent with RPMs at idle (it isnt audible in "Drive" and its a nice idle, and it feels maybe a little more pwoerful since i changed the AF and some hardlines? I hope so, had it in for ~5 minutes, i wish it would help the dieseling/run-on that happens when engine gets hot) but its still at idle, so i dont think i got it. Some sprays of Carb and Choke (to reveal leak) are false positives, since spraying it to the carb itself (base) seems to get it to race.

If it IS a "Carb mounting gasket," How much is that to replace? Or, is it "difficult?" Or how do .. well if its a vacuum leak, i may have given it some more smoothness and power, the "whine/whistle" is still there.

So, if it is vacuum, what do i do, how best to approach the problem of "there may be a vacuum leak somewhere" ? some of those old connectors wont let the hose out...

runs nice too. new WP, new heater hose, new coolant, new air filter, new hardlines not on right maybe... NICE!

Spray staring fluid on all vacuum lines and around intake gaskets and listen for a raise in idle. Easiest way to track down a vac leak.
