National third gen V6 Gathering

I'm just throwing this out there and see if anybody jumps on the idea.

What do you think the attendence would be if we had a national third gen gathering, but for V6 guys only?

I'm thinking St Louis, Nashville, or maybe louisville... Someplace that's a one day drive for most of america. (sorry west coast guys)

Chime in of you would be interested in making it a future event, maybe in 2012

How about Jacksonville, FL? Most highways lead here!!

Beer is on me .. less to those driving home... if you even drink beer...

Great weather here and coastal area to show off and enjoy the cars. We love all types of cars down here.

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

I've planned and pulled off national conventions in Nashville, St louis, Indy, Dallas, Baltimore, and Orlando. Orlando was by far the worst attended one on the bunch. the problem with Fl is it's in the corner of the country, and everybody except the people actually in FL have to drive a heck of a long way to get there.

I've done the math, Something like 83% of the country can get to those cities I mentioned in a one day drive

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

but in all seriousness... i would be down for that kind of thing, only downside i see is there are sooooo few of us v6 nut cases that it would be hard to get an actual turnout and not a bunch of im gonna come but then not show people.

That was my thought. And many of us have them torn down for painting & such long term. So we might get a bunch of primered cars with no interiors lol.

I know its a longshot, but i'm feeling some real v6 pride coming from the group recently. it might take years to get people used to the idea of a gathering just for us

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

I drove across country to go to the 03 Thirdgen National gathering, however if you hold it in Nashville or Florida, there is no way it's a "National" gathering because nobody from the West of the Mississippi is going to drive across the entire country for this. Pick somewhere central if you want a National Gathering.

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

I know you know how difficult this is. I ran the numbers, and St louis is a 900 mile drive or less for the following cities

Denver, CO
Houston Tx
Jacksonville Fl
New york, NY
Washington DC

and obviously all cites to the interior of that loose circle.

If we put it Wichita, Ks (about the closest you can get to the center of the country) It then makes New york a 1400 mile drive, and still keeps san Fransisco at 1700 miles. By moving it slightly to the center, you're really not helping that many people, it's still a brutal drive for anybody west of denver.

If we are serious about this, we should come up with a pushpin map of likely attendees, and see what is bearable for all involved

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

St Loius isn't as bad, heck, they are a NFC West team The difference between Nashville and St. Louis is 400 miles... tack that onto a already 2,000 mile one way trip and, well, you can understand.

I think you would be best to find the highest concentration of people who are most likely to make it put it less then 500 miles from them. That is the highest chance for success with something like this.

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

I did include st louis on my original post, I was considering all along.

500 miles is a good, comfortable number, but impossible to find that somebody doesn't really feel shafted. you car triple that number and still be leaving folks out

If you had to pick an ideal location, where would you pick? (don't say Seattle)

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

Yeah, my post was mostly in response to the Florida comment but also Nashville as well.

Seattle would be a horrible place to have it, so no worries about me saying that

I know places not to have it. Las Vegas is horrible for a small show ('01 3GO National Gathering).

As I said before, the best bet would be to get a good polling of people that might make it and put it near them. If people on the West coast are excluded, so be it, it doesn't make sense to turn away 10 people just so 1 might show up.

The other key is having someone who is living in the area that is willing to do a lot of the leg work and knows the places to do things at. Honestly, St. Louis makes a lot of sense as long as it has places to do the things you want to do. One of the best parts of the Nats in '03 was the camping the night before. We had a park full of Thirdgenners, sit around the fire, and BS.

The drag racing was a joke on Sunday. People that drive a long ways don't want to break their cars... plus it was rainy and a 1/8th mile drag strip. Maybe a Poker run would be a fun Sunday event instead of a Drag Race.

Anyway, this post is rambling... hopefully there is something useful in it.

plenty! thanks.

we'll kick this around for a while, see who chimes in with interest. I've got another gathering I'm getting ready for, but I'm interested in seeing if we can make this happen.

Finally my car would fit in somewhere :P
Though in my case theres no interior because I'm semi gutting it on account of being anorexic about my car, and its spray can primered to keep it from rusting till I actually have money to get it blasted down and painted nice....

Also much as I would love to go to such a thing, money, mechanically complications, and some legal bs(govt F***ed me over bigtime by revoking my registration just because I cancelled my insurance when my car broke down, and wasn't keen on sending my $100 plates in only 2 weeks after I registered it,(so I was trying to put it back on the road) but of course they give you no provision to file for any kind of exemption for a non running car to be registered but not insured. F***in bs I tell you.

As for the turnout though I think it would be pretty small, only the people that live close by, the people who are nuts about modding their cars, and the people who actually have cash and time to make such a drive would show.

i live in fern park Florida, right by Orlando. i'd love to try to make it but currently my car isn't running, and if it is out of state i most likely wouldn't be able to make it. though it'd be nice to do it and meet the people that help me so much.

I wouldn't mind seeing StLouis again. I think we need to open this up to the g-body and fwd arenas to make this a sucessful show. Still exclusively v6 though.

Thats not a bad idea, that would actually see a pretty good turnout I imagine, lots of fwd enthusiasts out there.
Btw, out of curiosity what state are you in bl85c? I might have asked at some pt but if so I can't remember....I would love to see a hybrid setup in person...

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

great! I'm still thinking 2012... it would be nice to have somebody in the host city to coordinate things, but that's not the most important thing

I'll look for a pushpin map application so we can start to get locations of likely attendees, that will help us find the best meeting spot that is convenient to as many as possible

If we were going to open it up to more cars, wouldn't 4th gen f-bodies be a better fit?

they already have a forum (though the thirdgen section is DEAD, everybody just posts over here instead)

http://forum.camarov6.com/index.php

personally, and I don't know how many of feel this way, I'd rather have 8 3rdgens there and that be it, instead of 8 thirdgens and 38 4th gens.

It would be different if camarov6.com was setting this up, and said all generations were welcome, but we're a generation specific forum, I wouldn't gain that much by having a bunch more cars there that were not 3rd gens

anybody else feel that way?

i agree with you, people love our cars now that they are unique and getting older, iv had 4 DIFFERENT conversations this week with people over the phone, 2 from safelite, 1 from sears when i was ordering my new tire, and a local cop in my town that does my towns window tinting, people are growing on these cars and seeing that they are rare and are hard to come by, even if they are so called "junk" so alot of people say, most are jealous, there are too many 4th gens out there and if we let them in they would over populate our section and make it look like our cars just showed up to a fourth gen show insted of the other way around. funny thing is, at lunch today this kid at my table was bragging on how he saw me driving a tiny car and it was junk and slow because he as trying to impress the girls at my table. my exact reply was " When you get something better and something that looks as good as my tiny peice of $hit, come find me cause i would love to see it, well as i was leaving school today the girls that were at my table saw me get into my car and they came up to the driverside window and was telling me how they loved it and wanted a ride and walked around it for a few minutes while begging for a ride. mind you i still have a cracked windsheild, no headliner, my car rattles alittle from the driver side door, and no driver side window sweep. that just goes to show you, in a way i guess that people still love these cars, mostly girls and most guys hate on them because they cant have or dont have anything better. today was a proud moment when those 3 girls were telling me how they loved my car.

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

you know guys, there is a group out there that we could tem up with to have a larger gathering, one that's kind of a natural fit for us

We could team up with the national Fiero clubs to see of anybody would be interested in joining us. I've always liked Fieros, and they share the same 2.8 that most of us are using (or they upgrade to the same engines we do)

that's what I was thinking...

the question is, would we want that, or go it alone?

Nashvilles a great idea, St. Louis is a great place to get your car broken into.

We could team up with the national Fiero clubs to see of anybody would be interested in joining us. I've always liked Fieros, and they share the same 2.8 that most of us are using (or they upgrade to the same engines we do)
The Fieros would probably outnumber Thirdgens 3 or 4 to 1.

I think it comes down to... what is the goal? The Fiero group is a great bunch for the 60v6 being it was the top motor that came in the car, however it will overshadow the v-6 F-body aspect of the show. However, it might be needed to get to a critical enough mass to have a "show". If the plan is more meet up, hang out, talk about cars, and do something fun with other people with more time/money then brains (who else would mod a V-6 ) then making it Thirdgen exclusive and you'll have a more involved group in the activities.

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

how about Charlotte, North Carolina. Or Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Charlotte, because of Racing history.
Myrtle Beach is one of the biggest tourist attractions on the East Coast.

My uncle holds car shows at MB every year and people show up from California just because of the location! Not to mention is home to Bike rallies and many other well know events.

Re: National third gen V6 Gathering

yeah, I love charlotte... some of my best friends in the world live in thomasville, so selfishly it would be great for me to put it there, but the idea is to get it close to as many people as possible, and putting in charlotte, or especially myrtle beach (which already has a camaro gathering) wouldn't be smart
