2.8 V6 Carb Firebird 84
i just bought a 84 firebird..2.8 V6 with a really bad rod knock...can i just replace that one bearing set and it be ok for a short while or do i need to do them all at once to make the car run?
Go get a running short block or long block from a yard and swap it in.
I blew my engine & did that.

Yeah, I agree; with the time it'd take to pull the motor and fix the "one" bearing, you could probably put in another for the same cost. 82-84 2.8's are pretty plentiful around here, and like KED mentioned in another post a while ago, you can find them in the chevy Blazer S10 trucks, too.
Plus, what if the crank is messed up? Then you'd have to pull the crank, get it machined, and after all that work, you might as well put all new main bearings in, and ...
Can rod bearings be replaced with the engine in the car? That seems like a "hell" job, but if it's possible....

Alright...in response to my earlier post...i went with trying the crossmember...got it out..to find the exhaust was in the way..couldn't get it loose due to the idiot previous owner....the way it was bolted...the only way to get the exhaust off is break the manifold to pipe bolts...so when i pull the engine..i'm going to have to...as for a short block...can't find one here...all they have are long blocks..$350 and up...i'm just going to yank the engine..and try for the rod...seeing how i've already got the bearings...anyone that can give me any info on doing this..i would appreciate it..
